Eamonn McCann -People Before Profit – Foyle -2010 Westminister Election May 4, 2010


The leaflet from veteran campaigner Eamonn McCann running for The People Before Profit Alliance in the 2010 Westminister Elections in Foyle.
This leaflet would have been delivered by volunteers rather than the postal service due to an Industrial dispute, of which details here.

Brid Smith -Socialist Workers Party -2002 GE Dublin South-Central February 1, 2010


Brid Smith, The People Before Profit Alliance candidate for Dublin Mayor, from the 2002 General Election where she stood for the Socialist Workers Party. She got 617 votes in Dublin South Central.
In 2009 she was elected easily to Dublin City Council for the Ballyfermot Drimnagh ward.
In 2002 The Bin Tax was the main issue. We see that at that stage the Tribunals had cost more that 60 million too (and how many corrupt politicians were jailed?).
The proposed incinerator (in Poolbeg) and its viability without being subsidised by the householder is mentioned also.

Dublin Housing Action Campaign (DHAC) 1999 – SWP October 14, 2009


The Dublin Housing Action Campaign (DHAC), this time the Socialist Workers Party inspired version. A protest in 1999 against evictions in St Ultans Flats.
One of many organisations to have the name (or at least a similar name) and same initials used numerous times by different groups.

Brid Smith -Socialist Workers Party -Dublin South Central 1997 October 13, 2009


Brid Smiths first electoral outing in 1997, where she gained 218 first preferences, the worst performance of the 4 SWP candidates in that election.
Fast forward to 2009 and she is elected easily ,146 first preferences away from the quota, in Ballyfermot-Drimnagh standing under the People before Profit banner.

Grace Lally -Socialist Workers Party – Rathmines 1999 LE September 21, 2009


In the the 1999 local elections, the Socialist Workers Party put forward 8 candidates, none of whom were close to being elected. This is the literature of Grace Lally who stood in the Rathmines Ward.  Contains information on the candidate, the SWP Election Manifesto and of course the “Get Involved” form too.

Peadar O’Grady -Socialist Workers Party- 1997 GE Dublin South East September 16, 2009


The 1997 General Election was the first time the SWP put forward candidates to contest an Irish election. It fielded four candidates- Ritchie Browne, Peadar O’Grady, Brid Smith  in Dublin constituencies and Jimmy Kelly in Waterford.

Peadar O’Grady ran in Dublin South East. They use being Anti Corruption to try and attract voters rather than advertising that they are a ‘revolutionary socialist group’.
