A 1999 leaflet from the Anti Racism Campaign aimed at then Fianna Fail TD Ivor Callely. In 1997 he had accused asylum seekers of begging off their neighbours and “carrying on a culture that is not akin to Irish culture”, such as the “bleeding of lambs in the back garden” and in 1999 he called on the government to “get tough” on asylum seekers and “throw out” what he refers to as “illegal immigrants”. Claiming that Ireland has become a “soft target”, he has said that asylum seekers are coming here to “cash in on the benefits available”.
Many thanks to the sender.

The fact that Ivor is sending this leaflet out leads me to think he’ll be standing again.
Ivor Calellys guide to Budget 2011.

First off there is the tagline under Ivors name
UNWAVERING ENERGY & DEDICATION BORN OF A TRUE PASSION FOR PUBLIC SERVICE

The heartwarming appeal from Ivor at the end of the leaflet
We must remain vigilant as we move forward learning from past mistakes and not settling for less than our full potential. We must look beyond our current difficulties and as resilient people we can and we will get through this difficulty.
I am asking people to be positive, to have hope and confidence.

And then the sneaky FF style logo!

Happened upon this 1999 press release from Ivor Callely where he urges a ‘Tattooing and piercing info campaign’

Given his current difficulties his press release sounds even more bizarre. There must have been an uproar at the time on Joe Duffy about Tatoos and Piercings.

From the 2009 local elections Ivor Callelys newsletter. Its a promo for himself and his son Ronan Callely who was running for Dublin City Council in the Clontarf ward. Callely junior wasn’t elected.
The contents of the newsletter , given recent revelations, is somewhat ironic.

On Savings and Investments Ivor suggests ‘you seek professional advice before you make any decision.’ Difficulties with Mortgages are also covered.

There are tips from Callely junior on ‘Looking for a job‘, There is also mentions of “Money Advice and Budgeting Service (MABS)”
the final call is one for Ivor to organise ‘House Meetings‘, ‘The impact of the current difficulties is real and the answer to our difficulties is not beyond our reach.’
