From the 2009 Local Elections in Blackrock, a packet of Hazel Tree seeds from Green Party candidate Ruairi Holohan. The seeds were given out as part of the ‘Brown Envelope Campaign’.
A clever device and a decent intention… but not enough to get him elected as he lost his seat. He polled 809 votes.
I wonder how many Hazel Trees were planted?
From the 1991 Local Elections a simple flyer for Fianna Fail candidates in the Pembroke Ward Kathryn Byrne, Ciaran O’Loughlin and Eoin Ryan. Eoin Ryan was elected.

From the 1994 European Elections a USA 94 fixture Guide from Fianna Fail candidate John Stafford. He failed to win a seat.
A strange leaflet where he endorses himself from Jack Charlton.

From the 2009 Local Elections a flyer for Fianna Fail candidate Seaghan Kearney running in Cabra Glasnevin.
Kearney polled a decent 1,313 votes but failed to get in.
Was searching around and found these. Brian Cowen in 1980 and 1981.
In 1980 he was on the Clara Under 21 County Championship winners and in 1981 he was on the Clara Senior team.
Funny thing the Johnny Bracken beside him on the Under 21 team could hardly be THIS OTHER ELECTORAL LEGEND FROM CLARA could it? 🙂
From the 1992 General election a small leaflet from the late Sean Dublin Bay Loftus (also known briefly as Sean Dublin Bay Rockhall Loftus). He was elected to the Dail on just the one occasion in June 1981. He lost his seat 8 months later at the Feb 1982 election. He served a term as Lord Mayor of Dublin.
Other Sean Dublin Bay Loftus leaflets posted a bigger 1992 one and a 1997 one.

A Cancer Awareness Information Leaflet from Fianna Fail TD for Cork North Central Noel O’Flynn.
A surely worthy venture from O’Flynn.
He writes….
Over a number of years, I have lost both family and friends to Cancer.
There is not a household in the country, which has escaped this scourge in some shape or form.
In this leaflet I hope to outline and make people aware of various types of Cancer that have affected many people of this country.
My soul purpose for this Newsletter is to heighten awareness and extend useful information and also provided information with regards to support groups for this terrible illness..
Many thanks to the sender.

Search for Richard Bruton ….. and you get a “Gilmore For Taoiseach” Sponsored Link…
Labour are hardly rubbing it in about the failed heave are they? … considering Richard Brutons chances of being Taoiseach were dashed…
From the 2009 Local Elections for Tullamore Town Council a flyer for Independent candidate Joe O’Connor.
He didn’t win a seat.
From the 2007 NUI Seanad election a leaflet for Independent Senator Rónán Mullen. Rónán Mullen was elected.
His endorsements include the then Ireland rugby coach Eddie O’Sullivan.

Searched for ‘Fianna Fail’ earlier … and a ‘Fed Up with Fianna Fail?’ Sponsored Link from Labour appeared.
Then searched for ‘Fine Gael’ … and a ‘Fed Up with Fine Gael?’ Sponsored Link from Labour appeared.
They both lead to a page with this youtube clip.
From the 2007 General Election a leaflet for Fine Gael candidate in Limerick East Kieran O’Donnell. O’Donnell polled 5,094 votes and was elected.
He is the nephew of former TD and MEP Tom O’Donnell.
Found these at home and thought them worth posting.
Two pictures taken at Sandycove baths near Dun Laoghaire in 1942. The Family would have been on Holiday in Dun Laoghaire at the time.
The detail isn’t great (the photos were matchbox sized) but it gives an idea what the baths looked like.
The baths closed in the early 1970s.
From the 2009 Local Elections a wonderful poster and Leaflet for Independent LGBT candidate Lisa Connell.
The “Out, Proud & Independent” slogan is excellent.
Lisa Connell polled 229 votes.
In my youth I recall Liz Noonan running on a Gay Rights platform in Dublin South East with posters pasted all around Donnybrook as I passed on the bus. She stood in 1981 and in the two 1982 elections. Lisa Connell continued that tradition.
Mamam Poulet has a fine post on Single Issue LGBT Candidates in Irish Elections.
I’d love to get any material for any of the candidates listed in Maman Poulets article. (Don Donnelly, Tonie Walsh,Michael Foley and Liz Noonan)
I’ve a 1997 John Goodwillie leaflet posted already.
From the 2004 European Elections a leaflet for Labour Party candidate in Dublin Ivana Bacik. She polled 40,707 votes and missed out on a seat.
The Trinity Lecturer having stood a number of times previously, she was elected as an Independent to the Seanad in 2007. In 2009 she again stood for Labour in the Dublin Central by-election.
