From the 2004 European Elections a leaflet from Dana Rosemary Scallon who was running in Ireland North West. Having surprised many by being elected in 1999, she lost her seat in this election, despite polling 56,992 votes.

From the 2004 European Elections “Give Dublin a Fresh Start in Europe” a leaflet from Fianna Fail Dublin candidate Royston Brady. Brady had been expected to poll well but his campaign went awry after a number of poor radio appearances and he polled just over 8% of the vote and never challenged for a seat.

Miriam McGillycuddy / Brendan Ryan – Labour -Tralee / Munster -2004 Local /European Elections September 4, 2012


From the 2004 Local Elections a leaflet from Labour Candidate for Tralee Town Council Miriam McGillycuddy. She polled 562 votes and retained her seat.
In the 2004 European Elections former Independent Senator Brendan Ryan running for Labour polled 19,975 votes and missed out on a seat in the South constituency.

Leaflet from Maisy Houlihan /David Cullinane -Sinn Fein 2004 Local and European Elections -Tralee / South August 1, 2012


From the 2004 Local and European Elections a leaflet for Maisy Houlihan running for Sinn Fein in Tralee and David Cullinane running for Sinn Fein in South.
Houlihan polled 527 votes and failed to win a seat on Kerry County Council, although she did win a seat on Tralee Town Council.
The Waterford based Cullinane polled 32,643 votes and missed out on a European seat.

From the 2004 European Elections a leaflet for Kathy Sinnott who was running as an Independent in the South constituency. She was elected polling over 89,000 votes. She is associated with campaigning for the rights of Autistic Children.
She had previously stood in the 2002 General Election where she missed out on a seat by just six votes in Cork South Central. She also stood in the 2002 Seanad Elections. She lost her seat in the 2009 European Elections.

“Elect Two Socialist Party Councillors” – Ruth Coppinger, Helen Redwood -Socialist Party 2004 Local Elections -Mulhuddart April 11, 2012


From the 2004 Local Elections a Leaflet from Socialist Party candidates Ruth Coppinger and Helen Redwood with the headline “Elect Two Socialist Party Councillors” . The two were running in Mulhuddart, Ruth Coppinger was elected with 1,848 votes whilst Helen Redwood polled 607 votes and missed out on a seat.
The leaflet also asks voters to vote for Joe Higgins in the European Elections.

“Who do they think they’re fooling this time?” asks this 2004 Leaflet from the Labour Party. The ‘They’ in this case being Fianna Fail .
The leaflet mentions some of the 2002 promises from Fianna Fail and gives a progress report on them.

From the 2004 European Elections a Dun Laoghaire Leaflet for Fianna Fail candidate Eoin Ryan. Pictured on the Front of the leaflet with Dun Laoghaire TDs Barry Andrews and Mary Hanafin with the slogan “Your team at home and away”.
Eoin Ryan was elected. He lost his seat in 2009.

A Manifesto for Young Ireland -Fine Gael 2004 -Includes an interesting “First Time Buyers” policy. September 20, 2010


From the 2004 Local and European Election Campaign a leaflet from Fine Gael entitled
“A Manifesto for Young Ireland” .
Included are a message from Enda Kenny and also “11 Reasons to Vote Fine Gael on June 11”.

Some of the eleven reasons are indicative of the time. The first one being First Time Buyers.
The First Time Buyer plans included a “Housing Deposit Scheme, similar to an SSIA, giving €1 for every €3 saved by first time buyers towards a deposit on a house“. there was also a promise to abolish stamp duty on second hand homes for first time buyers up to €400,000 and to “frontload mortgage interest relief“.

Other areas included Rip off Ireland, Insurance for Young Drivers, College Fees, Youth Suicide, Farming, Jobs and Public Transport.

“Kiss With Your Eyes Closed -Vote With Your Eyes Open” -Ivana Bacik -2004 Euro Elections September 16, 2010


From the 2004 European Elections flyers from Labour candidate Ivana Bacik. She failed to win a seat.
The flyers caused a bit of a stir at the time given the association between kissing and voting. They were distributed in pubs and clubs during the campaign.
The sender (many thanks) notes “..original Ivana Bacik postcard from Euro election 2004. This version was used as a postcard, a large version was used for washroom adverts. The reverse side of this postcard has a sticker that was used at a post – election thank you event.”
I gather the initial flyers (a the bottom of the post)  I posted were an online one.

Leaflet for Ivana Bacik- Labour Party -2004 European Elections Dublin July 7, 2010


From the 2004 European Elections a leaflet for Labour Party candidate in Dublin Ivana Bacik. She polled 40,707 votes and missed out on a seat.
The Trinity Lecturer having stood a number of times previously, she was elected as an Independent to the Seanad in 2007. In 2009 she again stood for Labour in the Dublin Central by-election.
