From the 1992 General Election a leaflet for Fianna Fail candidate Betty Coffey running in Dun Laoghaire. Having narrowly missed out on a seat in 1989 she polled 2,119 votes and wasn’t in the mix for the final seat.
Her background is interesting and reflects Dun Laoghaire of the time. It was seen as one of the countries most liberal constituencies and also had the lowest percentage of Catholics.
Her leaflet has a section “Who can create the jobs?”
“Not the state. Not unless it raises taxes by climbing up on the breaking back of the PAYE worker. Not unless it puts us in hock for billions to make up a few hollow jobs in FAS type training schemes.”
The odd thing being that the 1992 Fianna Fail Manifesto called for State intervention in Job Creation , a 750 million pound Jobs Fund was to be set up.

‘The Shadow Of The Gunman -Keep It From Your Home’ and other Cumann na nGaedhael Posters July 20, 2010
The famous ‘The Shadow Of The Gunman -Keep It From Your Home’ Poster from Cumann na nGaedhael. It was from the 1932 General Election. The other Posters I think are from 1932 also.
There was some imagination used in the making of the posters and through some of the messages you can see that The Civil War was still fresh in the Poster Designers minds.
Many thanks to the sender.

NAMA = welfare for the wealthy! -Leaflet from the Communist Party of Ireland 2009
A 2009 leaflet from the Communist Party of Ireland titled “NAMA = welfare for the wealthy!”.
NAMA “…is a case of Irish workers taking all the pain. The much talked about “sharing the pain” is nothing more than a ruse to cover a major attack on workers and their families, while the Rich and powerful, and their lackeys in the media and universities , remain firmly entrenched, retaining the control over economic and thereby political power.”
There is also an ad for the CPIs “An Economy For The Common Good” booklet.
Dustin The Turkey -“Vote Dustin No. 1 …. Bringing The Olympics to Termonfeckin” Poster July 16, 2010
First off many thanks to the great Turkey himself for sending this (and other items) on.
Dustins political career is of legend proportions.
In various elections, despite Dustin not officially standing, ballot papers with his name on them have supposedly outpolled some candidates on the ballot.
He has of course met many politicians in his time, even managing to secure an exclusive interview with George Mitchell (the US special envoy to Northern Ireland during the Peace Process)…. only to ask him about his days with WHAM…
The idea of “Bringing The Olympics to Termonfeckin” was inspired by the then Lord Mayor Gay Mitchells suggestion of Dublin hosting the Olympics.

Gary O’Flynn -Fianna Fail -2004 Local Elections Cork

From 1966 a fully filled “Laois Republican Commeration Committee” Easter draw card
From 1966 a Laois Republican Commemoration Committee Easter Draw card (I assume its a misspelling of commemoration).
The sender notes
Its a fully filled out Republican Easter draw card from 1966 – not sure if someone ever dropped it in for the draw or just made off with money – it was probably someone from Newbridge (or Droichead Nua) as thats where all the addresses are from.
Note that some of the names and addresses are Army men from The Curragh Camp and of course some are care of ‘The Liffey Bar’ in Newbridge.
