Programme for Shamrock Rovers Ireland XI V Brazil – July 1973 July 7, 2018

A bit of Sporting History , The Match Programme for the clash between a Shamrock Rovers XI and the then reigning World Cup Winners ,Brazil. The historic friendly match saw Brazil play a team of players from both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Unable to officially call themselves an “All-Ireland” team, they were called a “Shamrock Rovers All Ireland XI” and played in Rovers colours.
I’ve scanned and uploaded the Match Programme in pdf format here

An article about Shamrock Rovers and the Leagues top scorer Alan Campbell from the Irish Soccer Reporter Annual 1981. With 22 goals in the 1979-80 season, He won The ‘Soccer Reporter Sharpshooter award’ of  a then fairly hefty £1,000.
In 1984 he moved to Spain to play for Racing de Santander before moving on a few years later to another Spanish club CD Logroñés. He then went to Berchem in Belgium before finishing his career in Scotland.
He also won 3 Irish caps, a brilliant footballer.
Many thanks to the sender.

The programme for the 1978 FAI Cup Final Shamrock Rovers v Sligo Rovers November 5, 2012

Another deviation from politics to Shamrock Rovers and The programme (minus the ads) for the 1978 FAI Cup Final which was between Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers. Shamrock Rovers ran out one nil winners from a Ray Tracey penalty.
There’s a few nice bits in this, it mentions Eamon Dunphy refusing the offer of the managers job at Milwall , Some stuff on the Rovers player Manager John Giles, the fact that the O’Leary brothers Pierce of Rovers and David of Arsenal were both playing in cup finals that year.
From a Sligo point of view many of those in the line up were members of the team that won the League in 1977.

From Christmas 1988 Issue 2 of the Shamrock Rovers Fanzine ‘The Glenmalure Gazette’ December 1, 2011

From Christmas 1988 Issue 2 of the Shamrock Rovers Fanzine ‘The Glenmalure Gazette’ . At this stage Milltown had been sold but the fight to keep Rovers at Milltown was still very much on. We get news of some of the goings on around the campaign, details of how the developers would have to get planning permission, bids from later Rovers Chairman (and owner) John McNamara.
One of the highlights are The letters pages where we get all sorts including a letter of support from the band The Housemartins and one from the Rovers Legend Kitty Mellon complaining about a cartoon suggesting her dog Cindy had got fat.
Lots of anti Bohs stuff, reviews of other fanzines and Match programmes, rumours, 10 good reasons for supporting Rovers, the £5 Rovers Quiz , a spotlight on Bohs player John Reynor and lots more besides.
Apologies that I wasn’t able to get it into pdf format.

From the Christmas 1988 edition of the Shamrock Rovers fanzine “Glenmalure Gazette” a letter of support from the band The Housemartins to Shamrock Rovers Fans over the loss of Milltown.
Given that the band split in late 1988 , it was possibly one of their last acts as a band.
Will scan and post the rest of the issue when I’ve a chance.
