On October 30 the 1% Network will be holding a Halloween event amongst the most expensive streets of Dublin where mansions have sold for up to 51 million. We will be meeting at 6.30 in the evening near the RDS (exact venue to be announced). We will be having a look at some of the monsters who think the costs of the crisis should be paid for by the low paid, the sick and the unemployed rather than the 1% who own 34% of the wealth in the country. Come along and join us, fancy dress along the theme of zombie developers, vampire bankers and ghost estates encouraged.

There is a report of the groups AGM where amongst the items adopted were.
That a referendum be held to amend the constitution as follows:
“The government shall ensure through legislation, policies and planning that
the percentage of foreign residents shall not exceed 10% of the population”
[i.e. the current percentage as shown by the Census of 2006]; this amendment to
allow for recognition of EU Treaty agreements.

From the Summer of 2009 a leaflet from Dublin South East Fine Gael TD Lucinda Creighton, “Lucinda’s Annual Review” .
She lists out her issues from the previous year. These included Health Promotion, Ireland’s relationship with Europe, Promoting Business and Competitiveness, Dartmouth Square and Poolbeg Planning Scheme.
Lucindas Priorities for 2009/2010 included ‘Improving Our Economy’ and ‘Accessible Public Transport’.
We also have Her expenses, photos of herself with all sorts from Constituents in Béal na mBláth, to European Commission President José Maunuel Barroso to herself campaigning with George Lee.
Leaflet for Richard Conroy -Fianna Fail- 1987 General Election Dun Laoghaire. October 16, 2010
From the run up to the 1987 General Election a Leaflet with Calendar and New Years Message from Fianna Fail Dun Laoghaire candidate Richard Conroy. Conroy had four previous attempts running for Fianna Fail in General Elections and had failed to win a seat. Here in 1987 he polled 2897 votes and again missed out. (His record at Electionsireland.org).
Conroy is founder and director of Conroy Diamonds and Gold, a mining and exploration company as well as Conroy Petroleum.

“..Substance and policy are more important than style and performance”- Eamon Gilmore 1992 Letter to Voters October 11, 2010
From the 1992 General Election in Dun Laoghaire a letter to voters from the Democratic Lefts Eamon Gilmore.
One line in particular stands out “….that substance and policy are more important than style and performance”.
Eamon Gilmore was elected, which was a decent performance considering the Spring Tide.

Ruairi Quinn Leaflet -1992 General Election -Dublin South East September 29, 2010
From the 1992 General Election a leaflet from Labour candidate in Dublin South East Ruairi Quinn. Quinn polled 10,381 votes and was elected on the first count with well over a quota.
On the front of the leaflet is Ruairi Quinn with Dick Spring and a nice message from Spring.
On the inside is a critique of the FF/PD government. There were 300,000 unemployed. Major Property Owners and farmers were amongst those that Labour wanted to pay their ‘Fair Share’ in Tax.

Flyer from the New Party ‘Direct Democracy Ireland’ August 30, 2010
A flyer from the new Party Direct Democracy Ireland. Amongst those involved are Bernard kenny, Vincent salafia and Raymond Whitehead. Whitehead stood as an Independent in Glencullen Sandyford in the Local Elections.
The Direct Democracy format is along the lines of previous candidates such as Ross O’Mullane and from 1997 Gerald Dolan.

A simple enough flyer from Ógra Shinn Féin with the line,
‘10 Reasons why YOU should join Ógra Shinn Féin‘ and pictures of the ten dead Hunger Strikers. They were Bobby Sands MP, Francis Hughes, Raymond McCreesh, Patsy O’Hara, Joe McDonnell, Martin Hurson, Kevin Lynch, Tom McElwee, Kieran Doherty TD and Mickey Devine.

From the 2002 General Election a leaflet for Cork North Central Fianna Fail TD Noel O’Flynn. O’Flynn seemingly under pressure for the seat issued this leaflet highlighting his connections with the local area.
He duly topped the poll.

Ivor Callely 2009 Newsletter includes a section “How to cope through Difficulties’ August 5, 2010
From the 2009 local elections Ivor Callelys newsletter. Its a promo for himself and his son Ronan Callely who was running for Dublin City Council in the Clontarf ward. Callely junior wasn’t elected.
The contents of the newsletter , given recent revelations, is somewhat ironic.
“There are many individuals and families that need help now” writes Ivor before continuing “I want to send a clear message, no one is alone in their personal difficulties, help and support is out there.”
On Savings and Investments Ivor suggests ‘you seek professional advice before you make any decision.’ Difficulties with Mortgages are also covered.
There is a section on ‘HOW TO COPE THROUGH DIFFICULTIES‘
There are tips from Callely junior on ‘Looking for a job‘, There is also mentions of “Money Advice and Budgeting Service (MABS)”
the final call is one for Ivor to organise ‘House Meetings‘, ‘The impact of the current difficulties is real and the answer to our difficulties is not beyond our reach.’
