The Now BBC journalist Orla Guerin from the 1994 European Elections in Dublin. Orla Guerin had been a journalist with RTE and was a national name.
She was added to the Labour Party ticket after the selection convention had selected The sitting MEP Bernie Malone, who had been co-opted to replace Barry Desmond.
Many within the party felt that Malone may struggle to hold on to the seat, especially under pressure from The Democratic Left and The Workers Party.
There was a great rivalry between Malone and Guerin and it added to the campaign.
In the end Bernie Malone won a seat, although Orla Guerin polled well.

Tomas O’Conaill, Liam Coveney, Billy Murphy -Labour -Youghal UDC 1985 January 26, 2010
Not exactly the best quality leaflet, which wasn’t helped by the fact that I ‘rescued’ it from a ditch on the way to some haunted ruins on the banks of the Blackwater! I’m pretty sure its from the 1985 although I cant be certain. Tomas O’Conaill was running for Cork County Council where he polled 584 votes and failed to win a seat. He also ran for Youghal UDC whilst Liam Coveney and Billy Murphy were just running for the UDC. I’ve no idea who got in.
From a Brief search I see that Liam Coveney was still involved with the RNLI s Youghal Lifeboat.
Eamonn Walsh -Labour Party- 2004 Local elections Terenure/Rathfarnham

‘Elect a Local TD’ Aidan Culhane-local man January 21, 2010
I love this little leaflet as its main target is the other Labour Candidate Alex White.
White had an office in the constituency, but didn’t live there. There was a small bit of fuss about it and next of all this leaflet appears!
Paddy Bourke, Michael O’Halloran -Labour Party -1985 LE January 15, 2010

Mallie Jacobsen, Shay Monaghan, Joe Sweeney -Labour -Greystones TC 1985 January 10, 2010
From the 1985 Greystones TC election. I’m not sure who of the three, Mallie Jacobsen, Shay Monaghan and Joe Sweeney were elected.
It’s unusual to see ‘….we understand that the Commissions powers are very limited…..’, where often in Town Council elections you see candidates promising to change a lot of things that would be outside the Town Councils remit.

Joanna Tuffy -Labour -2002 GE Dublin Mid West
From the 2002 General Election a leaflet from Labour candidate Joanna Tuffy who just missed out on the final seat in Dublin Mid-West. She polled 2,563 votes.
Ruairi Quinn “Achievements in Difficult Times” -1987 GE Dublin SE January 5, 2010
From 1987 Ruairi Quinn outlines the achievements of the Labour Government and himself in the previous four years, especially his time as Minister for Labour and Public Service.
It’s quite a good read, especially the final page which has examples of the Social Employment Scheme (SES) –which he set up in action. Also there is the work done by AnCO on the renovation and restoration of the Irish College at Louvain.
The “Did you know?..” lists some of the worthy achievements of Labour in government…. alas one “Politics have been taken out of planning” didn’t last too long.
Alex White – Labour- 2004 LE December 30, 2009
Alex White from the 2004 Local elections where he was elected for the Terenure-Rathfarnham ward. He has since been elected to the Seanad and stood twice for Labour in Dublin South.
Eamon Gilmore -Labour -DunLaoghaire 2007 December 29, 2009
Eamon Gilmores 2007 leaflet. Pat Rabbitte was still Labour Party Leader. A stylish leaflet with the continued fashion of using quotes from Journalists. Also why print a picture of yourself as a five year old?

Derek McDowell-Labour- 1992- Dublin North Central December 11, 2009
Derek McDowell flew in on the Spring tide in 1992 getting almost a quarter of the votes in Dublin North Central. He held on in 1997 but lost his seat in 2002 to Finian McGrath.
