Ivor Callely 2009 Newsletter includes a section “How to cope through Difficulties’ August 5, 2010
From the 2009 local elections Ivor Callelys newsletter. Its a promo for himself and his son Ronan Callely who was running for Dublin City Council in the Clontarf ward. Callely junior wasn’t elected.
The contents of the newsletter , given recent revelations, is somewhat ironic.
“There are many individuals and families that need help now” writes Ivor before continuing “I want to send a clear message, no one is alone in their personal difficulties, help and support is out there.”
On Savings and Investments Ivor suggests ‘you seek professional advice before you make any decision.’ Difficulties with Mortgages are also covered.
There is a section on ‘HOW TO COPE THROUGH DIFFICULTIES‘
There are tips from Callely junior on ‘Looking for a job‘, There is also mentions of “Money Advice and Budgeting Service (MABS)”
the final call is one for Ivor to organise ‘House Meetings‘, ‘The impact of the current difficulties is real and the answer to our difficulties is not beyond our reach.’

From the 2007 General Election in Meath East a leaflet from Independent candidate Brian Fitzgerald. He failed to get elected.

The back of the flyer with its ‘Long Lasting Prosperity’ looks like almost like a joke now.
Bobby Sands, Francis Hughes Badges August 2, 2010
A Bobby Sands and Francis Hughes Badge issued I presume around the time of the Hunger Strike in 1981.
There was much paraphernalia like this available at the time.
Also an Anti Nazi Badge.

Betty Coffey in Black and White .. “A Voice For The Liberal Agenda In Fianna Fail” -1992 GE -Dun Laoghaire July 28, 2010
From the 1992 General Election a leaflet for Fianna Fail candidate Betty Coffey running in Dun Laoghaire. Having narrowly missed out on a seat in 1989 she polled 2,119 votes and wasn’t in the mix for the final seat.
Her background is interesting and reflects Dun Laoghaire of the time. It was seen as one of the countries most liberal constituencies and also had the lowest percentage of Catholics.
Her leaflet has a section “Who can create the jobs?”
“Not the state. Not unless it raises taxes by climbing up on the breaking back of the PAYE worker. Not unless it puts us in hock for billions to make up a few hollow jobs in FAS type training schemes.”
The odd thing being that the 1992 Fianna Fail Manifesto called for State intervention in Job Creation , a 750 million pound Jobs Fund was to be set up.

Leaflet with details of the 2007 Fine Gael Ard Fheis July 22, 2010
From 2007 a leaflet for the 2007 Fine Gael Ard Fheis to be held in City West. The Ard Fheis was a number of weeks before the Election and there is a rousing message from Enda.

There is also a ‘Whats Happening..’ section where we see that the music on the Saturday Night is provided by The Heartbeats (On their Website they list Bertie Ahern as one of their previous Clients).

From the 1989 General Election a leaflet for then Workers Party Councillor Eamon Gilmore. There is also a request to vote for Prionsias De Rossa in the European Elections that were held on the same day.

‘The Shadow Of The Gunman -Keep It From Your Home’ and other Cumann na nGaedhael Posters July 20, 2010
The famous ‘The Shadow Of The Gunman -Keep It From Your Home’ Poster from Cumann na nGaedhael. It was from the 1932 General Election. The other Posters I think are from 1932 also.
There was some imagination used in the making of the posters and through some of the messages you can see that The Civil War was still fresh in the Poster Designers minds.
Many thanks to the sender.
