From the 1938 General Election and Ad for Fine Gael Meath -Westmeath candidates Michael Sweeney, Patrick Giles and Charles Fagan. Fagan and Giles were elected. Some info on Giles.
The context of “Meath Wants No More Migrants!!” was the foundation of the Gaeltacht at Rathcairn and the influx of Irish Speakers from Connemara.

From the 1954 General Election Matt Cullen of Young Ireland who was running in Meath.
‘Young Ireland’ were a group/ party that contested the 1954 General Election fielding 3 candidates. Matthew Cullen in Meath – 155 votes
Eamon Halpin in Dublin South Central – 380 votes and Thomas Healy in Dublin North East – 502 votes.
There is little or nothing about the party available online. I presume that they were influenced by the ideas of the Young Irelanders of the 1800s. None of the three candidates listed appear to have stood in any other elections. There was no sign of Matt Cullen in the 1950 or 1955 Local Elections in Meath.
Should someone have any info on the party I’d love to get it.

From the 1954 ads for former Labour Party deputy leader James Tully who was running in Meath. Tully who later served as a minister is probably best remembered by the term ‘Tullymander’ in reference to his 1974 revision of constituency boundaries. His record at electionsireland.org
From the 2011 General Election campaign a Leaflet from Manus MacMeanmain of The Christian Solidarity Party running in Meath West. Amongst other themes we have the CSP attack the bailout, State money being given to The Irish Family Planning Association and the media.

From the 2011 General Election a leaflet for Workers Party candidate in Meath West Seamus McDonagh.
From the 2007 General election a flyer for Fianna Fails Noel Dempsey running in Meath West.
Dempsey topped the poll and was elected on the first count.
From the 2007 General Election a leaflet for Green Party candidate Sean O Buachalla running in Meath East. He polled 1,330 votes and failed to win a seat.
From the 2004 Local Elections a flyer for Sinn Fein candidate Peadar Tobin running for Navan Town Council and Meath County Council. Tobin failed to win a seat on either.
Also on the flyer is the Sinn Fein European Election candidate John Dwyer. Dwyer polled well but failed to win a seat. Tipped by many to win a seat in the 2007 General Election, Dwyer missed out. In 2009 he left Sinn Fein and is part of the “Independent Left” group.
From the 2007 General Election a leaflet fro Fine Gael candidate Regina Doherty running in Meath East. She polled well but missed out on a seat.
Like a lot of Fine Gael leaflets from 2007 there was little or nothing about the candidate themselves.
A while back Michael Lowry had a competition to win tickets to the Oxygen festival.
Was on the Youth Zone of Minister Noel Dempseys Website and came upon this opportunity to win a ‘school pack‘
If you feel we are missing something on our website, please feel free to write into us with ideas. Also if you have stories to tell the Minister write in … and you could be in with a chance of winning a school pack.
Here are the details below:
Department of Transport
44 Kildare Street, Dublin 2
So would Noel be opening childrens stories and suggestions for his website himself in the Department of Transport?
And what a prize too. Its hard to tell from the picture, I wonder if there is a Noel Dempsey picture or Fianna Fail logo on the schoolbag?
Also what mysteries could be inside? a Noel Dempsey pencil case?
From the 2007 General Election in Meath East a leaflet from Independent candidate Brian Fitzgerald. He failed to get elected.
A former Labour Party TD for Meath, Fitzgerald was probably the most high profile departure from Labour in protest at the merger with Democratic Left.

A wonderful little Card from Fine Gaels Shane McEntee from the 2005 Meath by Election campaign.
In it he reminds us of his and his families GAA pedigree with Meaths 2005 NFL and NHL fixtures on the reverse.
Shane McEntee won the by-election.

From the 2004 local elections a leaflet for Fianna Fail candidate Oliver Brooks who was running the Dunshaughlin Ward.
He was elected on the final count.

From the 2005 Meath by Election a flyer for Labour candidate Dominic Hannigan. Hannigan polled 5567 votes and failed to win the seat.
There were high hopes of winning a seat in the New Meath East constituency in 2007, however he just missed out on the final seat to Fianna Fails Thomas Byrne.
He was elected to the Seanad in 2007.
At a time a lot of Independent candidates are joining Labour, its interesting to note that Hannigan was originally elected to Meath County Council as an Independent before later joining the Labour Party.

From the 2005 Meath by-election, a leaflet from Green Party candidate Fergal O’Byrne. Fergal O’Byrne polled 1,590 votes.
O’Byrne is a long time Green activist.
From the 2002 General Election, Fine Gael candidate Damien English running in Meath. Damien English was elected, unseating party colleague John V Farrelly in the process. Damien English was returned again in 2007 for the new Meath West constituency.
From the 2007 General Election, Meath footballing legend Graham Geraghty running for Fine Gael in Meath West.
It was a suprise to many when he won a nomination, especially as it meant Fine Gael running 3 candidates in a 3 seat constituency. Geraghtys running mates were Damien English and Peter Higgins. Damien English was elected.
Graham Geraghty polled 1284 votes.
