Aidan Culhane didn’t win a seat.

From the 1989 General Election, a leaflet from Labour candidate Toddy O’Sullivan running in Cork South Central.
Toddy O’Sulliavn was first elected to the Dail in 1981 and served until losing his seat in the 1997 General Election.
Toddy was Lord Mayor of Cork in 1980 and also had two stints as a Junior minister. In 1986 he was appointed Minister of State at the Dept of the Environment and in 1994 Minister of State at the Dept of Tourism and Trade.
From the 1994 European Elections, Labour candidate Bernie Malone. Bernie Malone , a Malahide based councillor was co-opted to replace sitting MEP Barry Desmond in 1992. She was chosen as the Labour candidate at the selection convention only for Orla Guerin to be added to the ticket. Bernie Malone wasn’t happy and the two candidates developed a ‘rivralry’.
In the end it was Bernie Malone who won a seat.
A leaflet given out by the Labour Party in the 2007 General Election Campaign called ‘The story of Labour’s Rose’.
James Larkin, James Connolly and Sean O’Casey all get a mention here.
‘Of Larkin, O’Casey said he was a man who would as soon put a rose in a vase as bread on the table.‘

From the 2007 General Election, former Labour Party Senator Kathleen O’Meara running in Tipperary North. The leaflet is focused on both ‘Labour’s 5 commitments for change’ and local issues in Ballina such as a new bridge.
Kathleen O’Meara had previously been a journalist in RTE, she is currently Head of Advocacy and Communications at the
Irish Cancer Society.
From the 2007 General Election in Cork East, The Labour Party Candidates Cobh based John Mulvihill and the Mallow based Sean Sherlock (son of the late Joe Sherlock).
John Mulvihill had one term as a TD from 1992 to 1997.
This time around Sean Sherlock won a seat for Labour.

From the 1999 local elections a flyer for Labour candidates Senator Pat Gallagher and Cllr Sean O’Brien running for Offaly County Council. On the reverse the Labour Candidates for Tullamore UDC, Pat Gallagher, Sean O’Brien,Lar Byrne, Joe Feery and Ann Starling are all shown.
Pat Gallagher resigned from politics around 2000 to take up the position of Director of Community and Enterprise with Westmeath County Council. He is now the County Manager of Offaly County Council, having previously held a similar post with Galway County Council. He had been elected to the Dail in 1992 and lost his seat in 1997. He was elected to the Senate in 1997. (His record at electionsireland.org)
The Labour result in Tullamore UDC was a massive victory for them as Labour won four of the nine seats (result at electionsireland.org). Pat Gallagher, Sean O’Brien,Lar Byrne and Joe Feery were elected with Ann Starling missing out.
Incidentally a ‘Miriam O’Callaghan’ was elected for Fianna Fail there too (although I gather no relation).
Theres nothing on the flyer indicating policy, its just photos of the candidates.

From the 1991 Local Elections in Athlone, Labour candidate John Henson. I’ve no idea if he was elected or not. Issues covered include moneylending and gaming machines in Mullingar.

From the 2007 General election, John Kelly running as an Independent in Roscommon-South Leitrim. John Kelly was recently unveiled as a recruit to the Labour Party.
“Imagine an Independent candidate with the balance of power in Your Area” writes Kelly.
Backed by the Hospital Action Committee he polled over 4,500 votes. In the 2009 local elections Valerie Byrne and Paula McNamara both polled over 1000 votes running for the Hospital Action Committee.
There was no Labour candidate in the 2009 local election in Roscommon and one, John Feely in Carrick On Shannon who polled just 285 votes.
It will be interesting to see if Kelly can build on his 2007 vote.

Seamus Pattison was first elected in 1961 for Carlow-Kilkenny and served until 2007. He served two Dail terms as Ceann Comhairle and was for a long time also ‘Father of the house’ (an honour which Enda Kenny now holds).
The Father of Seamus Pattison, James Pattison also served as a TD from 1932-51 and 1954-57.

An election flyer from The Labour Party in the 1992 General Election Campaign. With Dick Spring so popular the slogan is smaller and the picture of Dick dominates the page.
Looking back quite a few of the aims were done between 1992 and 1997.

From the 1968 Referendum on Change in Voting System, two Labour Party ‘Vote No’ Posters
‘The Straight Vote is Crooked’ Vote NO!
Fianna Fail proposed changing the voting system to that similar to the UK
The Third Amendment of the Constitution Bill, 1968, proposes
To substitute for the present system of voting at Dáil elections the “straight vote” system in single-member constituencies;
To establish a Commission to determine constituencies, subject to the right of the Dáil to amend the constituencies as so determined; and
To provide that whenever the Dáil is dissolved the outgoing Ceann Comhairle may be returned, without a contest, as a second deputy for a constituency chosen by him which consists of, or includes a part of, the constituency he represented before the dissolution.

The Now BBC journalist Orla Guerin from the 1994 European Elections in Dublin. Orla Guerin had been a journalist with RTE and was a national name.
She was added to the Labour Party ticket after the selection convention had selected The sitting MEP Bernie Malone, who had been co-opted to replace Barry Desmond.
Many within the party felt that Malone may struggle to hold on to the seat, especially under pressure from The Democratic Left and The Workers Party.
There was a great rivalry between Malone and Guerin and it added to the campaign.
In the end Bernie Malone won a seat, although Orla Guerin polled well.
Veteran Labour politician Michael Bell from the 2002 General Election in Louth. Michael Bell lost his seat in the 2002 election, a seat he had held since November 1982.

From the 2002 General Election, Labour Candidate Mary Upton defends the seat she won in the by-election in 1999. The By-Election was caused by the passing of her Brother Pat Upton. Amongst the photos in the Leaflet are herself and Mick McCarthy.

From the 2004 European Elections in Dublin. Labour candidates Proinsias De Rossa and Ivana Bacik. DeRossa was elected.
From the blurb Proinsias DeRossa must have been very busy in Brussells.

Labours Liam Kavanagh From the 1989 General Election in Wicklow. Liam Kavanagh served as a TD from 1969 to 1997 (Liam Kavanagh on electionsireland.org).
