One of the most eye-catching posters from the Lisbon 2 campaign. From Éirígí ‘Never Mind the B****cks it is the same Treaty’

From the 2009 Local Elections, Fianna Fail Candidate Joe Wallace who failed in his attempt to be elected in the Rathkeale LEA in Limerick.

From the 1997 General Election campaign, A leaflet from Democratic Left Leader Proinsias De Rossa running in Dublin North West. The leaflet lists the achievemenst of The Rainbow Government both nationally and locally.
Issues covered include the regeneration of Ballymun, ‘A Northside light Rail system …is planned’, ‘Control of horses act has been introduced’, ‘Local community groups… have recieved significant funding’.
From the 2009 Local Elections in Newcastlewest, Fine Gael candidate Patrick O’Donovan. The youthful O’Donovan was co-opted onto the council in 2003, held his seat in 2004 and was re-elected again in 2009.
He is pictured on the reverse in various places around the town in the same jumper. Unusually there is a spot for an address and stamp so does he intend the recipient to use it as a postcard (or did he intend posting them and had them hand delivered instead?).
From the 2009 Local Elections. Independent candidate Marie Reddin who was unsuccessful in her attempt at winning a seat on Athone Town Council.

From the 2007 General election campaign, the Progressive Democrats tell you that ‘Your Vote Counts’…. That you want them rather than Sinn Fein, The Greens or Labour having influence.

From the 2007 general Election Campaign, Then Labour Party Leader, Pat Rabbittes ‘My 5 Commitments for Change’ card.
The 5 Commitments for Change were..
1.More Bed in Clean Hospitals.
2.Pre-School education for all our children.
3.More Gardai on the beat in neighbourhoods.
4.Abolish the means test for carers.
5.Enable more people to begin to buy a house.
many thanks to the sender.
Many thanks to the donor who writes…..
Sean Downey ran for Sinn Féin in the 2009 local elections for Newbridge Town Council and Kildare County Council. He was the first SF candidate in over 20 years in the town and recieved 662 votes in the county and 245 in the town, Sean was not elected.
Also included are the Sinn Fein European Election candidates Kathleen Funchion and Tomas Sharkey.
‘National Government -Our Only Hope’ wrote Independent candidate Thomas Sharkey running in the 1987 General Election in Dublin South.
Not many agreed with Thomas Sharkey as he polled 189 votes, even then getting more votes than 3 other candidates.
From the 1985 Fine Gael Ard Fheis held in Cork. Which was located in Cork to complement the Cork 800 celebrations.
This is the booklet delegates were sent prior to the event (or indeed at the event). I also have a copy of the pack on Motions and policies debated at the Ard Fheis but it is rather large.
In 1985 Fine Gael were in Government.
Some lovely things here. The Neptune Stadium is ‘at most a 20 minute walk’ from City Hall is a bit like all these new estates that were described on the blurb as ’20 minutes from Dublin’.
Extra Pay Phones were installed for the event. The ‘Bed Bureau for delegates’ run by the Cork Kerry Tourism Organisation almost sound dirty.
We have a map of Cork with the one way system marked by arrows and looking very confusing. The Social events included a fashion of the time a ‘Chicken supper’.
The now deceased delegate who gave me this, had ticked off the events they wanted to attend. There were then lists of the panels for election to The National Executive. With the last pages being taken up by amendments to Fine Gael Constitution and Rules.

From the 2009 Local Elections in Blessington, Fine Gael candidate Lorcan McMahon. Despite polling well Lorcan McMahon failed to get in.

From the 1987 General Election in Dublin South the Green candidate Roger Garland. Garland later became a Ireland’s first Green TD in the 1989 General Election, before losing his seat in 1992.
He had also stood in the Ecology party’s initial electoral outing in November 1982 getting 950 votes in Dublin South.
In 1987 the Green Alliance policies were very much left of centre. There was no mention of such thing as Global Warming or depleting ozone layers. From memory of the times Acid Rain was what we were really scared of. The European Greens got a far bigger mention then in Green Literature, than they do now.
Reposting this leaflet as earlier Garland post had leaflets from 2 different elections.

Found this ‘Keep US War Planes Out of Shannon’ Poster issued by The Labour Party in I think 2006 and couldn’t help wondering what they would do in government?
From 1992 Fianna Fail candidate Batt O’Keefe running in Cork South Central. Batt O’Keefe was re-elected having lost his seat in 1989 and has held it ever since.. He had been elected on this his first attempt at the Dail in 1987.
In 2004 Bat O’Keefe was appointed Junior Minister at the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government. In 2008 Brian Cowen appointed him as Minister for Education and Science and in 2010 he was appointed Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation.
He played in the half forward line in Corks Munster Under 21 winning Gaelic Football team of 1965.

From the 2009 European elections in Munster, Fine Gael candidate, the former President of the GAA Sean Kelly. Sean Kelly polled well and was elected.
As Uachtarán of Cumann Luthchleas Gael Sean Kelly credited himself with the opening on Croke Park to Soccer and Rugby.
This leaflet is Kerry centric with testaments from Jimmy Deenihan, Tom Sheehan and Senator Paul Coughlan

From the 1999 European Elections in Leinster the Labour candidate Sean Butler. He polled 38,112 votes and missed out on being elected.

From the 2002 General Election campaig n in Dublin South East, the then Labour Party leader Ruairi Quinn. Quinn was comfotably elected.
The image of Ruair Quinn waving whilst Kevin Humphreys, Mary Freehill and Dermot Lacey stay cool and calm is one I’ve always liked.
