From the 2002 Abortion ( Right to Life) Referendum a leaflet from the Pro Life Campaign. The Referendum proposal was defeated by the votes of those more pro choice than the Pro Life Campaign and the more extreme anti abortion campaigners.
Interesting to note that former Libertas candidate Caroline Simons was the Pro Life Campaigns ‘Legal Consultant‘.
From the 1961 General election a Poster for Fianna Fail urging voters to “Back Lemass”.
Sean Lemass had been appointed Taoisseach in 1959 and this was his first election as leader of Fianna Fail.
Fianna Fail lost 8 seats but Lemass headed a Fianna Fáil minority government.

A 2009 leaflet from the Communist Party of Ireland titled “NAMA = welfare for the wealthy!”.
NAMA “…is a case of Irish workers taking all the pain. The much talked about “sharing the pain” is nothing more than a ruse to cover a major attack on workers and their families, while the Rich and powerful, and their lackeys in the media and universities , remain firmly entrenched, retaining the control over economic and thereby political power.”
There is also an ad for the CPIs “An Economy For The Common Good” booklet.
From the 2009 Local Elections a leaflet for Roscommon Hospital Action Committee candidate Paula McNamara. She was comfortably elected.
The HAC came to national prominence in 1987 when their candidate Eithne Quinn polled over 4000 votes. Two years later in 1989 Tom Foxe was elected to the Dail and he held his seat until 1997.
In 2002 Una Quinn stood and in 2007 Independent candidate John Kelly ( who recently joined Labour) stood with the endorsement of the HAC.
They have held council seats in Roscommon for over 20 years.
From the 2009 Local Elections a leaflet for Fianna Fail candidate Niamh Smyth running in Bailieborough. She topped the poll.
She is a grandniece of former Minister Paddy Smith (who served as a TD for Cavan from 1923 to 1977) as well as niece of former councillor Turlough Smith and Cousin of another former councillor Michael Smith (who stood a number of times for Fianna Fail in Cavan Monaghan).
First off many thanks to the great Turkey himself for sending this (and other items) on.
Dustins political career is of legend proportions.
In various elections, despite Dustin not officially standing, ballot papers with his name on them have supposedly outpolled some candidates on the ballot.
He has of course met many politicians in his time, even managing to secure an exclusive interview with George Mitchell (the US special envoy to Northern Ireland during the Peace Process)…. only to ask him about his days with WHAM…
The idea of “Bringing The Olympics to Termonfeckin” was inspired by the then Lord Mayor Gay Mitchells suggestion of Dublin hosting the Olympics.

From the 2004 Local Elections a flyer for Fianna Fail candidate Gary O’Flynn running in the Cork North Central Ward. Gary O’Flynn was comfortably elected.
In 2003 he was co-opted to replace his Father Noel O’Flynn. In 2008 he resigned his seat and his brother Kenneth O’Flynn was co-opted to replace him on the council.
From 1966 a Laois Republican Commemoration Committee Easter Draw card (I assume its a misspelling of commemoration).
The sender notes
Its a fully filled out Republican Easter draw card from 1966 – not sure if someone ever dropped it in for the draw or just made off with money – it was probably someone from Newbridge (or Droichead Nua) as thats where all the addresses are from.
Note that some of the names and addresses are Army men from The Curragh Camp and of course some are care of ‘The Liffey Bar’ in Newbridge.

The striking image of the window with “No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs” reflecting the experiences of many Irish Emigrants over the years.
The Referendum was passed.
Other material From the citizenship Referendum.
many thanks to the sender.

Unusual , but of I thought would be of interest. A leaflet from Richard Kennedy running in the 2009 election for President of the Irish Farmers Association.
Kennedys leaflet is focused in the main on the issues affecting Dairy Farmers. (I dont know if there were specific leaflets for specific sectors).
The winner of the contest John Bryan was (I’m told) focused on the import of Brazilian Beef.
From the 2009 Local Elections for Tullamore Town Council a flyer for Labour candidate Alan Farrell. Farrell failed to be elected.
Others on the party ticket were Lar Byrne, Lorraine Dormer and Sean O’Brien. Lar Byrne and Sean O’Brien were elected.
From 2008 a leaflet from the shortlived Priorities Party.
Founded by former Green Party Member Leo Armstrong and Fine Gael member Florence Craven, they started out with the best of intentions. Alas its very hard to start a New Party and make an impact.
In this leaflet they did though reflect the anger of many and this was before NAMA, the Bank Bailouts , cutbacks and so on.
As the party name suggests, we aim to improve standards and accountability in Irish politics, a feature that has been lacking in Irish politics since the Haughey era. What are the opposition parties doing about the present situation? They are doing very little. The Green Party was once very vociferous in its attacks on Fianna Fail until they went into coalition last year. Our opposition parties do not have teeth. We have never been more in need of a strong opposition to rid us of a party which continually supported those of its members who lied and perjured themselves just to hold on to power.
