From the 1973 Presidential Election a leaflet for Fianna Fail candidate Erskine Childers. Childers, a TD from 1938 until 1973, had spells as Tánaiste , Minister for Posts and Telegraphs, Minister for Transport and Power, Minister for Lands and Minister for Health. The leaflet mentions his work and achievements as a Minister. It also mentions , which is possibly a reflection on the power of television in 1973 that he “has spoken on Irish affairs on virtually every Television Service in Europe and America
It also features a family picture which includes current Labour Party MEP Nessa Childers.
He was elected to the Presidency in this 1973 election, sadly he passed away on the 17th of November 1974 and he was succeeded as President by Cearbhall Ó Dálaigh.

“Sorry to have missed you!” – Nessa Childers -Green Party -Blackrock 2004 Local Elections Blackrock. April 21, 2010

A Rather Lengthy and verbose ‘Sorry I missed you’ card from Nessa Childers when running for the Green Party in Blackrock in the 2004 Local Elections. Nessa Childers was elected.
She is the daughter of former president of Ireland Erskine Childers. She resigned her council seat in August 2008 citing pressure of work as a psychoanalyst as her reason.
Less than a year later she surfaced as the Labour European Parliament candidate for the East constituency. She was elected and is now a Labour MEP.

Nessa Childers – From Green 2004 to Red 2009 September 16, 2009

Found this Nessa Childers leaflet from 2004s Local Elections and thought it worth posting…..

Nessa, daughter of former President Erskine Childers won a seat for the Green Party here. She later resigned the seat and bowed out of politics only to reappear as Labour candidate for Ireland East in the 2009 Euro elections.

In Ireland we often have people leaving parties going Independent or founding their own party/group, often they are welcomed back to the party which they had left.

Not too many elected representatives switch between the main parties, so as a collector I like the fact that I have both the Green and Labour leaflets for Nessa Childers….

We must grasp the opportunities offered by new technologies…‘ she writes in the Labour Leaflet
