From 1977 -“The Fianna Fail Manifesto -an action plan for national recovery” – abridged version October 18, 2010

From 1977 an abridged version of the Fianna Fail Election Manifesto. The 1977 Fianna Fail Manifesto has gone down as one which in part led to Irelands fiscal crisis in the 80s. In the main the Manifesto was reportedly crafted by Martin O’Donoghue.
It proved popular with the voters as Fianna Fail were returned with an unprecedented 20 seat majority.
Amongst the below are Tax cuts, abolition of Rates, first time buyer grants of £1000 and other giveaways.
Amongst the first time TDs elected were Bertie Ahern, Pádraig Flynn, Liam Lawlor, Charlie McCreevy, Martin O’Donoghue and Albert Reynolds.

The vision of this manifesto is an Ireland in which a successful strategy for national reconstruction offers real security for all. It has been carefully put together and costed for implementation in government by a team under Jack Lynch as Taoiseach. It is a blueprint for leadership which,by firm and just administration of law, esteem and enterprise, and concern for the individual, will bring back that sense of confidence and interdependence which is essential to the growth of peace and social progress, and of our cultural heritage and place among the nations of the world.

Apologies for the size of the text.
Taken from the wonderful Galway Advertiser Site.

From the 1974 Local Elections a newspaper Ad (the Galway Advertiser) for Independent candidate John Francis King with the wonderful slogan ‘Dont Forget on Polling Day – Cast Your Vote For J.F.K
As far as I know he was elected.

John Perry -Fine Gael – Sligo Leitrim 2002 GE October 13, 2010

From the 2002 General Election a flyer for Fine Gael Sligo Leitrim candidate John Perry.
Perry, a Ballymote based businessman, was first elected in 1997 and despite it being a poor election for Fine Gael, he held on to his seat.
“Vision with Purpose” was a pretty bad Slogan especially when up against the memorable “A lot done, more to do”.

1997 Christian Solidarity Party 28 page Manifesto with containing “specific proposals in summary form” September 23, 2010

From around 1997 A Christian Solidarity Party Manifesto containing “specific proposals in Summary form”.
At that time, led by Gerard Casey (who polled 2000 votes in the 1997 Election in Dun Laoghaire) the policies here seemed reasonable enough especially compared to some of their later material.

From 2003…Ivor Calellys “History Of Leinster House” Leaflet. It was provided for tours of Leinster House that I presume Ivor arranged.

A membership form for the newly founded Irish Democratic Party.
From their website ...
The Irish Democratic Party is a new political movement in Ireland. Formed by a group of ordinary concerned citizens who witnessed on a daily basis the crippling deficit of leadership in Irish political life, the IDP’s aim is to establish a democratic, accountable and verifiable republic in Ireland.

A Message from Liz O’Donnell TD (asking to vote for Victor Boyhan) -2004 LE Blackrock September 15, 2010

From the 2004 Local Elections a letter from Liz O’Donnell asking for a vote for Victor Boyhan. Oddly enough O’Donnell wasn’t a TD for the area.
Despite polling 1,433 votes (3rd after the first count in a four seater) Boyhan lost his seat. He regained it running as an Independent in 2009.

‘One man and his dog’ -Eamon Gilmore -Democratic Left -1997 GE Dun Laoghaire. September 8, 2010

One of my favourite Eamon Gilmore Leaflets. This one is from the 1997 General election when the then Minister of State for the Marine was running for the Democratic Left.
The casual picture of him walking the dog on the beach (Killiney beach?) to him purposefully strolling around the new ferry terminal in Dun Laoghaire.
There is also small pictures of him doing activities such as fishing and meeting people like Neil Kinnock.
The ‘NIREX dump’ refered to was a proposed underground nuclear waste dump near Sellafield.

In February 2003 a crowd of 100,000 demonstrated against the War in Iraq. A Month later the war started.
This leaflet is (I think) from early March 2003. When the war started there were to be brief work stoppages and protests at various venues.
