Limerick City and County Council Local Election Results 1960 to 2009.
At the minute the fabulous electionsireland.org has most of the 1991 LE with all of the 1999, 2004 and 2009 results. So this continues to add the online availability of old election results online.

“The Cavan Road Runners” – Ad for Cavan Road Action Group (CRAG) 1991 Local Elections July 25, 2011


From the 1991 Local Elections an Ad for The Cavan Road Action Group (CRAG) who ran four candidates. All four were elected. It was one of the main talking points after the election.
Matthew Fitzpatrick topped the poll in Belterbet polling 1,071 votes and was elected on the first count. Dolores Smith topped the poll in Cavan polling 1,001 votes and was also elected on the first count. Winston Turner topped the poll in Bailieborough polling 958 votes and was also elected on the first count. Seamus Harten polled 664 votes and took the forth seat in Ballyjamesduff.
In 1999 Winston Turner held on to his seat, with Dolores Smith and Matthew Fitzpatrick both losing their seats. Seamus Harten didn’t contest the 1999 election.

A kind soul has sent me a number of Local Election Results that are currently unavailable online. At the minute the fabulous electionsireland.org has most of the 1991 LE with all of the 1999, 2004 and 2009 results.
I’m going to start with the Local Election Results from Dublin City Council and Dublin County Council for the 1967 , 1974, 1979,1985, 1991, 1999, 2004 and 2009 Local Elections with many count details.
Its in excel format , if there is an interest I’ll add some more.

Flyer for Eamon Gilmore and Sylvie Batt -Workers Party -1991 Local Elections Ballybrack May 14, 2011


From the 1991 Local Elections a flyer for Workers Party candidates Eamon Gilmore and Sylvie Batt running in the Ballybrack LEA. Gilmore topped the poll and was elected on the first count with over 2000 votes but failed to bring in his running mate Batt who polled 333 first preferences.
The two candidates are pictured with other Dun Laoghaire based candidates in this brilliant  1991 leaflet.

 

Liz Hackett, Michael Donnelly and Stan McEoin -Workers Party -1991 LE Galway December 27, 2010


From the 1991 Local Elections an ad for Workers Party candidates Liz Hackett, Michael Donnelly and Stan McEoin who were running in the Galway area. Liz Hackett, who was a sitting councillor lost her seat and Donnelly and McEoin both failed to win seats.

From the 1991 Local Elections a flyer for Fianna Fail candidate Derek Mooney running in Rathmines. Mooney failed to win a seat. Amongst his running mates were Mary Hanafin who also failed to win a seat.

From the 1991 Local Elections a letter to residents from Workers Party candidate Mike Jennings. The letter concerned plans for Blessington Basin in Phibsborough.

 

Ronnie McBrien -Progressive Democrats -1991 Local Elections Rathfarnham


From the 1991 Local Elections a leaflet for Progressive Democrat Candidate Ronnie McBrien running in the Rathfarnham ward. Despite polling 719 votes he failed to win a seat.

A 1991 Local Elections leaflet for Marian White of The Workers Party running in Blackrock. She narrowly missed out on winning a seat. The leaflet also has a message from Eamon Gilmore.

 

Anti Fianna Fail Leaflet from John McGinley, Colm Purcell and Emmet Stagg -Labour -1991 Local Elections Celbridge November 28, 2010


From the 1991 Local elections a Labour Party Leaflet Attacking Lies told by Fianna Fail in its 1985 Local Elections Manifesto. The Leaflet is for the Labour candidates John McGinley, Colm Purcell and Emmet Stagg.
John McGinley didn’t win a seat although won a seat in 1999 and has held it since.
Former Workers Party Councillor and General Election candidate Colm Purcell held on to his seat. Whilst current TD, Emmet Stagg topped the poll and won a seat.

John Dockrell, Aine Elliott -Fine Gael -1991 Local Elections Blackrock November 24, 2010


From the 1991 Local Elections a flyer for Fine Gael candidates Aine Elliot and John Dockrell running in Blackrock. John Dockrell held on to his seat whilst Aine Elliot lost hers.
John Dockrell is the son of former TD Percy Dockrell, grandson of former TD Henry Morgan Dockrell, great grandson of Sir Maurice Dockrell a former Unionist MP. He is also brother of former councillor William Dockrell.

‘Labours Charter to protect our Local Environment’ -Niamh Bhreathnach 1991 Local Elections Blackrock November 11, 2010


From the 1991 Local Elections a leaflet from Labour candidate Niamh Bhreathnach running in the Blackrock Ward where she was elected.
The focus of the leaflet is on Environmental issues such as Booterstown Marsh.
It was at this time that ‘Environmental Issues started taking a bigger role in election leaflets , in part to do with the potential rise in the Green Party vote.

From the 1991 Local Elections running in Dublins North Inner City ward a letter to voters from Fine Gael Candidate Dave Kearney. Where he polled 253 votes (Result here)
Jobs were the issue in 1991 , just as they are today.

 

John Byrne, Carmel McKenna -Labour 1991 LE Bray October 27, 2010


From the 1991 Local Elections a leaflet for Labour Party candidates John Byrne and Carmel McKenna. John Byrne was elected.
John Byrne has been on Bray Town Council since 1974 (and his father and grandfather before him back to 1912).
Carmel McKenna almost won a seat in 1994 on Bray Town Council. She then ran in the 1999 locals with Liz McManus and John Byrne as running mates. In 2004 she canvassed for the greens and then in 2007 she ran for People Before Profit Alliance .
