From the 2009 European Elections in Dublin, a flyer from outgoing Fianna Fail MEP Eoin Ryan. Previously a Councillor, Senator and TD, Ryan was elected as an MEP in 2004.
In this 2009 Election he lost his seat.

From the 2007 General Election Campaign a leaflet from Evelyn Cawley an Independent running in Wicklow. Active locally, the Greystones based Cawley was seen as an outside chance of a seat. On the day she polled 2,246 votes and finished down the field.

Ad for Kieran Doherty -H-Block -Cavan Monaghan 1981 General Election August 2, 2011
From the 1981 General Election an ad for H-Block candidate Hunger Striker Kieran Doherty who was running in Cavan Monaghan. Doherty polled 9,121 votes and was elected. Another H-Block candidate Paddy Agnew was elected in Louth.
After 73 days on Hunger Strike, Doherty died on the 2nd of August 1981.

From the 2007 General Election a leaflet from the Pat Rabbitte led Labour Party “Anti Social Behaviour -Labour Listened…. now we will act” . On the reverse we learn of a poll taken by members of the Labour Party Nationwide on Anti Social Behaviour.
“No To EEC” – ITGWU 1972 Referendum on Entry to the EEC August 1, 2011
From the 1972 Referendum on Entry to the EEC a leaflet from the Irish Transport and General Workers Union urging a No vote in the referendum. It foresaw entry to the EEC as leading to job losses.

From the 1998 Limerick East By-Election a flyer from Democratic Left candidate John Ryan. It (and the Dublin North by Election held on the same day) was the last election fought by the Democratic Left before their merger with the Labour Party.
John Ryan polled 3,868 votes.

From the 2011 General Election an ad for Independent candidate Kate Bopp who was running in Tipperary North. On this her first electoral contest she polled 322 votes.

Tomas O Dochartaigh -Ailtirí na hAiséirghe -1944 Tipperary
From the 1944 General Election Tomas O Dochartaigh, Cathal Brughas nephew, running for -Ailtirí na hAiséirghe in Tipperary. He polled 1,072 votes.
Ailtirí na hAiséirghe were a Fascist style party set up in Ireland in the early 40s. There is a good book on them called “Architects of The Resurrection”.

A year earlier in the 1943 General Election the party took its first foray into Electoral Politics fielding four candidates.

In 1945 the party contested the Local Elections winning 9 seats on various Local Authorities.
In the 1948 General Election it stood just one candidate.

David Norris is having a nationwide Coffee Break on the 19th of August for his Presidential campaign. A novel idea. Interesting to see if it takes off.

“The Cavan Road Runners” – Ad for Cavan Road Action Group (CRAG) 1991 Local Elections
From the 1991 Local Elections an Ad for The Cavan Road Action Group (CRAG) who ran four candidates. All four were elected. It was one of the main talking points after the election.
Matthew Fitzpatrick topped the poll in Belterbet polling 1,071 votes and was elected on the first count. Dolores Smith topped the poll in Cavan polling 1,001 votes and was also elected on the first count. Winston Turner topped the poll in Bailieborough polling 958 votes and was also elected on the first count. Seamus Harten polled 664 votes and took the forth seat in Ballyjamesduff.
In 1999 Winston Turner held on to his seat, with Dolores Smith and Matthew Fitzpatrick both losing their seats. Seamus Harten didn’t contest the 1999 election.
