Kilkenny County Council Local Election Results 1955 to 2009
A “Septic Tank Inspection Charges” leaflet from The Workers Party mocking Fianna Fails campaign against the Septic Tank charge.

From the 1948 General Election campaign “Fianna Fail has a Plan” containing details of their plan. Agriculture, Industry, Housing and Health are amongst the areas covered.
From Christmas 1988 Issue 2 of the Shamrock Rovers Fanzine ‘The Glenmalure Gazette’ . At this stage Milltown had been sold but the fight to keep Rovers at Milltown was still very much on. We get news of some of the goings on around the campaign, details of how the developers would have to get planning permission, bids from later Rovers Chairman (and owner) John McNamara.
One of the highlights are The letters pages where we get all sorts including a letter of support from the band The Housemartins and one from the Rovers Legend Kitty Mellon complaining about a cartoon suggesting her dog Cindy had got fat.
Lots of anti Bohs stuff, reviews of other fanzines and Match programmes, rumours, 10 good reasons for supporting Rovers, the £5 Rovers Quiz , a spotlight on Bohs player John Reynor and lots more besides.
Apologies that I wasn’t able to get it into pdf format.
Found these and thought worth posting….
A letter from Cllr John Lahart in response to a letter from myself regarding Tallaght Stadium and what prompted it all.
From the Christmas 1988 edition of the Shamrock Rovers fanzine “Glenmalure Gazette” a letter of support from the band The Housemartins to Shamrock Rovers Fans over the loss of Milltown.
Given that the band split in late 1988 , it was possibly one of their last acts as a band.
Will scan and post the rest of the issue when I’ve a chance.

From the 1923 General Election and a piece from Cumann na nGaedhael illustrating some of the issues of the time .
“The Challenge – Government and Order V The Irregulars and Anarchy”
From the 1989 General Election a leaflet from John Stafford, who was running for Fianna Fail in Dublin Central. Stafford is one of the Stafford Funeral Directors family and the address given on the leafolet is that of the Funeral Directors. In this 1989 election he held his seat, which he initially won in 1987. On the mock ballot paper at the back of the leaflet you may notice that Geraldine Harney, RTE presenter and sister of Mary Harney, was running for the PDs.
In the leaflet we have a message from Charles Haughey as well as one from Stafford himself.

From the 1987 Referendum on the Single European Act an ad from Christian Family Action ‘In the name of the Most Holy Trinity from whom is all authority ….’ calling for a No Vote.

From the 1923 General Election ,a leaflet “Vote for Sinn Fein” . Amongst the opening paragraph is that Sinn Fein offers “Justice and Brotherhood- not Flogging and Tortures”.
“Sinn Fein will abolish the murder gangs and secure the life, liberty and property of the people”
Lots more besides,
Many thanks to the sender.

“Fine Gael -Every Little Hurts!” a Labour Party ad from the 2011 General Election based on ads for Tesco. They appeared in newspapers during the campaign.

From the 1997 General Election campaign a leaflet from The Labour Party “Ireland’s Economy”. It contains all sorts of economic stats from the time such as Economic growth, Consumption, GNP, Unemployment etc with graphs illustrating improvements under the Rainbow Coalition.
A copy of the ‘Campaign Against Household and Water Taxes’ Autumn/Winter 2011 Newsletter.

Galway County Council election results 1925 to 2009
From the 1981 General Election Fine Gael looking for the farming vote. “Fine Gael subsidies will help you increase production -bring you up to the Mark Clinton standard”.
Mark Clinton was the Fine Gael Minister that negotiated Irelands entry to the Common Agricultural Policy.

An eye catching poster , probably from the mid 1940s , from Ailtirí na hAiséirghe with the slogan “Partition Must Go”.
Ailtirí na hAiséirghe were a Fascist style party set up in Ireland in the early 40s. There is a good book on them called “Architects of The Resurrection”.
Many thanks to the sender.

From 1936 a poster advertising a meeting to set up a branch of the Irish Christian Front in Rathmines Town Hall. ” Show by your presence at this meeting that Ireland Rejects Communism”.
More information on The Irish Christian Front here and from here a brief description of their aims..
The aim of the Irish Christian Front is to organise a united Irish front of all those who are opposed to Communism and its allies in Ireland, for the creation of a social order worthy of the Christian professions, and to send medical aid and supplies to the patriot soldiers of Spain, and to assist the refugee victims of the Red government.
Many thanks to the sender.
