Mary Rachel Brophy would be best known for her founding of ‘Festina Lente‘ which uses Horses and horticulture to provide “a range of training, occupational, learning and employment opportunities for people whose needs are not being met in mainstream services”.
William Dockrell has an impressive political pedigree. He is the son of former TD Percy Dockrell, grandson of former TD Henry Morgan Dockrell, great grandson of Sir Maurice Dockrell a former Unionist MP. He is also brother of former councillor John H. Dockrell.

‘One of The Best ‘ Eamon Gilmore -Democratic Left- Dun Laoghaire 1992 GE November 3, 2010
From the 1992 General Election a leaflet from the then Democratic Left TD Eamon Gilmore running in Dun Laoghaire.
Some lovely slogans in ‘One of The Best‘ and ‘Make Sure Vote Gilmore‘.
We get details of how much Gilmore speaks in the Dail. The Leaflet also mentions that Gilmore ‘began the organisation of the first Peace Train‘.
(I had my doubts but here he is at the First Peace Train.)
We learn too that “He helped lead the campaign to reform his old party, and was one of the first to leave to form Democratic Left” (Should read to form New Agenda which became Democratic Left).
Gilmore was elected easily having polled 7,045 votes.
Renee Prendergast -Official Sinn Fein -1975 Galway By-Election
These few clippings are from the 1975 Galway West By Election caused by the death of Fianna Fail TD John Geoghegan and won by his daughter Maire Geoghegan Quinn.
They give an illustration of OSF policy and thinking at the time . Considering it was 1975 the quote of “Our minerals, oil and gas which successive governments have sold out must be taken back by the Irish people” still holds fairly true.
Renee Prendergast polled 656 votes.
Clippings from The Galway Advertiser.

From the 2004 Local Elections a letter to voters regarding possible development at Weston Aerodrome in Lucan from Fine Gael Lucan candidate Peter Brady. The letter also mentions a planned protest on June 11th that year. Brady , a former councillor, failed to win a seat despite polling 1,370 votes.
Joseph Curley, Paul Hayes, Brendan Holland, Patrick D Ryan – Chamber of Commerce candidates- 1974 Local Elections Galway November 1, 2010
These are from the 1974 Local Elections for Galway Borough Council. Joseph Curley, Paul Hayes, Brendan Holland and Patrick D Ryan running for the local Chamber of Commerce.
As was common in many Irish Towns (Sligo and Thurles were two others that had Chamber of Commerce candidates and councillors in the past) The local Chamber of Commerce fielded candidates in the Local Elections.
In this election the Galway Chamber of Commerce went into this election with 2 councillors and both lost their seats. It was one of the shocks of the election locally.
As far as I’m aware the Galway Chamber of Commerce have not fielded any candidates since 1974.
Another one taken from the Galway Adertiser.
