Olga Bennett- ‘Why Me?’- Fianna Fail 1992 November 1, 2009

1992 and Dubli Central had been dramatically redrawn. Twice Dublin West candidate and Cllr for Ballyfermot Senator Olga Bennett finds herself on the Fianna Fail ticket with Bertie Ahern and Dermot Fitzpatrick.
Despite using the title of Linda Mrtins Eurovision winning song as a slogan she polled 1,087 votes and Aherns healthy surplus wasn’t enough to help herself or Dermot Fitzpatrick over the line.

1997- Bertie- “A Young Leader for a Young Country” ‘..in politics only to serve the people’ October 25, 2009

“A Young Leader for a Young Country” who on the inside of this doc is  “A New Leader for a New Century”. The profile of Bertie “.. he is in politics only to serve the people” and other plaudits that in hindsight ring hollow.

This was one of a series of leaflets for the 1997 election produced by Fianna Fail. Some were on Crime, some on Drugs, some on Job creation and so on. The fact that there was a whole leaflet dedicated to their leader shows how much they played on ordinary Bertie who is in touch with the people. He was that important to them.

Berties Newsletter 1993

Berties Newsletter from around 1993 I think. Its some production and really illustrates the image on the ground as the person who gets jobs done. Literally every road in the area has had a problem addressed at Berties behest.

Stephen Riney, Damien Fee, Ann Ormonde – Rathfarnham 1991 Local Elections

Stephen Riney ran Orchard Estate agents in Rathfarnham (its now the Remax office) and was also a keen local historian. ( Another leaflet produced by him was a heritage map of the area which I’ll post in due course). Theres still no sign of the Comminity Centre/ Swimmong pool proposed by hime either.
Ann Ormonde ran a number of times without success in General elections however has served a number of terms in the Seanad. Damien Fee is/was a school principal. Ann Ormonde was elected.

Donal Moynihan -Fianna Fail -1997 Cork North West October 22, 2009

Its usual for a candidate to emphasize their surnames at election time. In this case though, its the ‘Donal’ thats in large letters, due to the fact that both Fianna Fail candidates had the surname Moynihan.
Both Donal and Michael Moynihan were elected.

Peter Considine, Raymond Greene, Josie Nevin-Fianna Fail – Ennis 1991 LEA

Fianna Fail -Ennis 1991 LEA.
Just a simple card that would have been handed out on a canvass or at the polling station.
For the record Greene and Considine were elected.

Royston Brady Fianna Fail – Dublin 2004 -‘Missing- Can you help?’ October 21, 2009

The 2004 European Elections and Fianna Fail have high hopes that Berties boy Royston Brady may help win a second seat for the party.
A popular Lord Mayor Brady was seen as having a great chance and opinion polls early in the campaign had him winning a seat……..

…then came a series of gaffes in interviews.. among them, being unable on a number of occasions to name the new countries joining the EU and also a claim that his fathers Taxi was stolen and used as a getaway car by the loyalists who bombed Dublin in 1974.
From hogging the limelight he suddenly went off the airwaves with a number of weeks left in the campaign. … This poster was seen around Dublin at the time.

Michael Finneran – Fianna Fail Longford-Roscommon 1992

Michael Finneran on his first attempt for the Dail in 1992. It was in the new  Longford-Roscommon constituency.
He was part of very strong Fianna Fail ticket with Sean Doherty, Terry Leydon and Albert Reynolds.  He finished the fourth of the Fianna Fail ticket.

Mary Hanafin, Michael Donnelly, Gerry Kieran and Derek Mooney- Fianna Fail Rathmines 1985 October 19, 2009

A young Mary Hanafin in her fisrt electoral outing in Rathmines 1985. Both Hanafin polling 890 votes and Donnelly polling 2133 votes were elected. Derek Mooney polled 534 votes and Gerry Kieran 849 votes and both missed out.

Jackie Fahey letter and FF candidates (Fahey,Donal Ormonde, Brain Swift) Waterford 1987 October 7, 2009

From the 1987 General Election in Waterford.
A letter from Jackie Fahey who pleads with voters to help him out after the constituency has been redrawn.

Also Profiles of the 3 Candidates, Brian Swift, Donal Ormone and Jackie Fahey.
Brian Swift looks as if hes listed his mundane hobbies to fill space.
Faheys brithplace of Clonmel, County Waterford is still the postal address for some parts of West Waterford, such as The Nire and Ballinamult.  Fahey and Swift won seats for Fianna Fail. That election also marked the election of the then PD Martin Cullen to the Dail and the defeat of Fine Gael TD Eddie Collins who had held a seat since 1969.

Evelyn White – Fianna Fail Carlow-Kilkenny 1992 October 6, 2009

Not a great success in that Evelyn polled just over a thousand votes.
Looking at the leaflet she says ‘Since being selected as the third candidate at the FF convention….’
Was the fourth Fianna Fail candidate Kevin Fennelly added by HQ? Given his and his families sporting prowess it wouldn’t have gone down well with the other Kilkenny based candidates.
