From the 1934 Sinn Fein Ard Fheis an wonderful pamphlet of an address by Father Michael O’Flanaghan to the Party.
We get a 1934 perspective on Sinn Fein since its foundation in 1917. Goes through various topics including the first split in 1922 and the second split in 1926.
The most important task of any organisation is to preserve the purity of its principles.” says O’Flanaghan.

From 1966 a Laois Republican Commemoration Committee Easter Draw card (I assume its a misspelling of commemoration).
The sender notes
Its a fully filled out Republican Easter draw card from 1966 – not sure if someone ever dropped it in for the draw or just made off with money – it was probably someone from Newbridge (or Droichead Nua) as thats where all the addresses are from.

Note that some of the names and addresses are Army men from The Curragh Camp and of course some are care of ‘The Liffey Bar’ in Newbridge.

 

Tony Flannery- Sinn Fein -Dublin Mid West 2002 GE July 5, 2010


From the 2002 General Election a leaflet from Sinn Fein Candidate Tony Flannery running in Dublin Mid West. He polled 1,855 votes.
There is a confidence in the message from Gerry Adams that Sinn Fein were about to make a massive breakthrough. They won 5 seats in 2002, a gain of 4.

Leaflet for Pádraig Mac Lochlainn -Sinn Fein -2009 European Elections North West June 19, 2010


From the 2009 European Elections a leaflet for Sinn Fein candidate Pádraig Mac Lochlainn running in North-West. Pádraig Mac Lochlainn polled 45,515 votes, just over 9% of the total poll and failed to win a seat.
He is seen as a contender in Donegal North East at the next General Election. In 2007 he was second on the first count but failed to attract sufficient transfers to put him over the line.

Peter Lawlor -Sinn Fein -2004 LE Clontarf June 12, 2010

From the 2004 Local Elections a leaflet for Sinn Fein candidate Peter Lawlor running in the five seat Clontarf ward. Lawlor polled 1,478 votes and was in fifth position after the first count. He failed to hold on to his position and lost out.
He also stood in the 2007 General Election in Dublin North Central, but again failed to win a seat.

Larry O’Toole -Sinn Fein -1994 European Elections Dublin June 10, 2010


From the 1994 European Elections a leaflet for Sinn Fein candidate Larry O’Toole. He polled 8,190 votes.
The Election was prior to the First IRA ceasefire in August 1994. O’Toole also mentions Section 31 of the broadcasting act which had been dropped earlier that year.

From the 1999 European Elections a leaflet for Sinn Fein candidate Sean Crowe.

Crowe polled 18,633 (6.64%) votes and failed to win a seat. He did however win a council seat on the same day. In the 2002 General Election he topped the poll in Dublin South West but to many peoples surprise lost his seat in 2007.

Maurice Quinlivan- Sinn Fein -Limerick East- 2007 GE June 2, 2010


From the 2007 General Election in Limerick East a leaflet for Sinn Fein candidate Maurice Quinlivan.
Quinlavin polled 2,081 votes and failed to win a seat. He did however win a seat on Limerick City Council in 2009.
It was the making of defamatory statements about Quinlavin, that eventually led to Willie O’Dea resigning as Minister of Defence.

From the 1998 Assembly Elections Sinn Fein candidate Bairbre de Brún running in West Belfast. Bairbre de Brún was elected. She is now an MEP for Northern Ireland.
She was very active in the promotion of the Irish Language and on the Ard Comhairle of Sinn Fein.

Liam Burke -Sinn Fein -1992 Cork South-Central May 11, 2010


From the 1992 General Election , Sinn Fein candidate Liam Burke running in Cork South Central. Liam Burke polled 592 votes.
1992 was two years prior to the first IRA ceasefire, The message from Gerry Adams metions the circumstances that could bring about the end to armed conflict.
The Leaflet mentions unemployment in Cork as well as Housing waiting lists and other issues.
There also mention of retaining Cork Multi-channel Television (Sinn Fein fighting to keep UK channels on Irish Television sets?).

Looks very like Cumberland Street in Dun Laoghaire.

Out of The Ashes Arose The Provisionals -Republican Christmas Card


A christmas card produced, I assume by the Republican movement or Sinn Fein. I think its from the 70s or early 80s.
Aside from the  traditional ‘Nollaig faoi shean is faoi mhaise duit’ in the card there is also a quote from Marie Drumm.
‘We must take no steps backwards, our steps must be forward, for if we don’t our martyrs who died for you, for me, for this country, will haunt us for eternity’
Marie Drumm was a former vice president of Sinn Féin who was assinated whilst in hospital by Loyalists in 1976. She was also a commander in Cumann na mBan.
