Kerry Public Service Workers Alliance -Anti Government Flyer March 3, 2010

Got sent this and thought it of interest. A flyer from The Kerry Public Service Workers Alliance (http://kpswa.wordpress.com/). It  Illustrates succinctly the gripes of many of the lower paid Public Service Workers (and many others too).
Also why would Tom McEllistrim earn more than Jackie Healy-Rae?

(Should anyone have the Black and White anti Healy-Rae poster shown in a report recently I’d love a copy)

Tom Doodle Monster Election Rally photo-Listowel 1951 General Election. February 26, 2010

Found this old pic at home (I have also seen it in various books on Listowel and North Kerry).
This is a photo of a rally held in Listowel for the election of ‘Tom Doodle’. Prior to the 1951 General Election John B Keane had set up a fictitious political party, the Independent Coulogeous Party, complete with a fictitious candidate, Tom Doodle, who appeared at a ‘Monster Rally’ in Listowel. The picture is from that rally.

A Fergal Keane article about Tom Doodle explains it all… or almost all.

Theres also a short youtube clip of John B Keane talking about Tom Doodle.
I’ve also attached a pic of a class in Listowel taken during the fifties. Notice how many boys are shoeless…

Michael Healy-Rae and Jackie Healy Rae calling card February 19, 2010

Jackie Healy-Raes card, himself on the front and his constituency secretary Michael Healy-Rae on the back.  Jackie Healy-Rae doesn’t advertise his mobile number.

(Thanks to Michael Healy-Rae for this)

Tom Doherty – Fianna Fail -1999 Local Elections Killarney February 2, 2010

Fianna Fails Tom Doherty from the 1999 Local Elections in Kerry. Doherty was running for both Kerry County Council and Killarney UDC. He was elected to neither.
Looking at the manifesto the call for the increase in the first time buyers grant and re-construction grant shows that the Property boom had started and even then there were those needing a helping hand getting on the property ladder.

Martin Ferris- Sinn Fein- 1999 Euro Elections Munster January 21, 2010

This is what went through the letterbox of the voters in Munster in 1999. It is unusual as it tell you nothing about the candidate, despite the fact that Ferris wasn’t a TD yet.
Martin Ferris polled 6.5% of the vote.

Michael Gleeson-South Kerry Independent Alliance (SKIA) 1999 LE. December 16, 2009

All Ireland Medal winner Michael Gleeson of SKIA from the 1999 local elections.

In 1999 he wanted to abolish holy hour on a Sunday

There were issues around potential conflicts of Interests of councillors. Hence “I Have no vested interest in any property in Killarney”.
As a tourist attraction, Michael Gleeson also wanted a GAA Museum in Killarney (I suppose the rest of the country needs to be reminded how good Kerry are at the football, even on holidays).
Lots more here besides.

Another small party – The South Kerry Independent Alliance (SKIA).  Its been running since 1995 at least. As far as I know, ex Kerry footballer, Michael Gleeson has been its only successful candidate to date.

South Kerry Independent Alliance was formed by ex Labour members in South Kerry, Gleeson is a former Labour Party member. This is just a flyer I shall put up the full SKIA doc in due course.
