Was sent this (many thanks) and was unaware of a campaign against Metro North. Its seen as a 15 billion Euro White Elephant.
I gather that these posters are appearing around Town at the minute too.
There is a No To Metro North Facebook group also.
“Don’t Kill Dublin City – No To Metro North” September 18, 2010

‘Electronic Voting in Ireland -A Threat to Democracy?’-Report for Labour Parliamentary Party 2003
From 2003 when doubts about E-Voting were coming to the fore a report for the Labour Parliamentary Party by Shane Hogan and Robert Cochran entitled ‘Electronic Voting in Ireland -A Threat to Democracy?’
There is a lovely quote from the Film Gangs of New York on the front.
The Report itself gives a background to the Irish System its History, Key Components and Operating Procedures. Other areas covered include the the Voter Verifiable Audit Trail as well as possible threats.
The Report recommended “that further usage of Electronic Voting in Ireland is suspended, until”
– A Voter Verifiable Audit Trail is available to give each voter absolute confidence that their vote had been correctly recorded and counted.
– Appropriate control processes & procedures are implemented by DoEHLG, with audit & supervisory responsibility vested in an independent body.
– Integrated ‘end-to-end’ testing, including statistical analysis of the randomisation feature, is carried out to verify the accuracy of the entire system
– DoEHLG commits to providing full details of tally information in database form after each election.
I have uploaded the Report in *.PDF Format HERE

“It wasn’t cool in the 1980s. It’s not cool now.” -An eye catching Sinn Fein Anti Emigration flyer
Another eye catching recent flyer from Sinn Fein (who are producing some very creative leaflets at the minute). The fashion displayed was horrifyingly trendy in its day.
“It wasn’t cool in the 1980s. It’s not cool now.” a Sinn Fein Anti Emigration flyer. The main point being the lack of job creation.
The flyer was issued by Arthur Morgan.

“Kiss With Your Eyes Closed -Vote With Your Eyes Open” -Ivana Bacik -2004 Euro Elections
From the 2004 European Elections flyers from Labour candidate Ivana Bacik. She failed to win a seat.
The flyers caused a bit of a stir at the time given the association between kissing and voting. They were distributed in pubs and clubs during the campaign.
The sender (many thanks) notes “..original Ivana Bacik postcard from Euro election 2004. This version was used as a postcard, a large version was used for washroom adverts. The reverse side of this postcard has a sticker that was used at a post – election thank you event.”
I gather the initial flyers (a the bottom of the post) I posted were an online one.
Laurence Fallon -Fine Gael -2009 LE Mid Roscommon September 15, 2010
From the 2009 Local Elections a flyer for Fine Gael candidate Laurence Fallon running for Roscommon County Council.
Fallon and his Fine Gael Colleague Dominick Connolly were both elected.

A Message from Liz O’Donnell TD (asking to vote for Victor Boyhan) -2004 LE Blackrock
From the 2004 Local Elections a letter from Liz O’Donnell asking for a vote for Victor Boyhan. Oddly enough O’Donnell wasn’t a TD for the area.
Despite polling 1,433 votes (3rd after the first count in a four seater) Boyhan lost his seat. He regained it running as an Independent in 2009.

Marie ‘The Shamrock’ Murphy -Fianna Fail -Kanturk 2004 Local Elections September 14, 2010
From the 2004 Local Elections a leaflet for Fianna Fail candidate Marie “The Shamrock” Murphy running in Kanturk. She was elected although lost her seat in 2009.
Many thanks to the sender who notes…
The name ‘Shamrock’ comes from a pub in the village of Kiskeam in North Cork, which I think her husband owned at one point. Her husband John B had been a councillor but due to ill health resigned and Marie took the seat on the council.

Patricia McKenna -‘Champion of Irish Democracy’ -Green Party -2007 GE Dublin Central
From the 2007 General election, a leaflet for Green Party candidate and former MEP Patricia McKenna running in Dublin Central.
She polled 1,995 votes and failed to win a seat.
The theme of Champion of Irish Democracy focuses on her Supreme court challenge on Referendum spending.

Mary Grehan -Independent -2002 GE Louth
From the 2002 General Election a flyer for the Late Mary Grehan running as an Independent in Louth where she polled 2,384 votes. A prominent Anti-Sellafield campaigner and well known GP in Dundalk, Mary Grehan had run for the PDs in 1997. For many years she was a member of both Louth County Council and Dundalk Town Council.
Her son Alan Grehan was elected in 2009 to Louth County Council and Dundalk Town Council.
“Rapists Out, Out, Out of ….” Poster from bus stop last week
I found this plastered to the bus stop last week and it has been put up fairly widely.
For legal reasons I’ve blacked out where it refers to as it may be a specific case.
I’m not sure who is behind it and am pretty sure it has nothing to do with Larry Murphy.
Sinn Fein anti Water Charges Leaflet September 11, 2010
I just think this is so simple and effective. They were left around shopping centres and were the same size as a 500 euro note!
Many thanks to the sender.
