From the 2007 General Election A leaflet promoting Laois Offaly Fianna Fail candidates Brian Cowen, Sean Fleming, John Foley and John Moloney. All but John Foley were elected.
John Foley is the chap who goes missing in this infamous Fianna Fail Ard Fheis Clip. (At around 1.05 mins in)

Bertie writes Over the last ten years Ireland has taken major steps forward with mass unemployment being made a distant memory and huge investment in public services. This represents real and sustained progress ……

We also get a little profile of Brian Cowens professional and personal life as well as the other candidates.

Regards from Bertie- Letter looking for support for the Brother Maurice Ahern -2009 Local Elections,Dublin Central By-Election May 11, 2010

From 2009 and Bertie Ahern writes to voters in Dublin Central asking for a vote for the Brother Maurice Ahern in both the By Election and the local elections.

Bertie as ever in Dublin Central writes ‘Dear Neighbour’ as opposed to ‘Dear Voter’.
I am writing to thank you for the kindness and encouragement that has been extended to me…”
The content is of course as personal as ever. The elections give Bertie ‘a great opportunity to meet local residents and to catch up with you news and views…
He then goes on to ask for a vote for Maurice Ahern in both the Local Elections and the by-election.
Maurice Ahern finished fifth in the by-election on just 12.26% of the vote and also failed to win a seat in the Local Elections.

A leaflet produced by the Shell to Sea Campaign illustrating the lack of money the State will make from the Corrib Gas field (and others). You’d still have to wonder why they gave it all away for free?

‘Dear Friend’ -Bertie Ahern Letter to Electors 1992 Dublin Central March 19, 2010

From the 1992 General Election in Dublin Central. A letter from Bertie Ahern to constituents. ‘Dear Friend’ it begins with…..
Amongst other things, Bertie writes that he has “one simple aim in life as a public representative: to work with the community of Dublin-Central in improving the quality of life for as many constituents as possible.”

‘Now, the NEXT STEPS’ picture -Fianna Fail 2007 General Election March 8, 2010

‘Now, the NEXT STEPS….’ one of the Fianna Fail Slogans from the 2007 General Election. The picture of a laughing Bertie with the delighted young couple.
Although more than likely actors, if not, you can’t help wonder did they buy that overpriced apartment on the 100% mortgage, did they have a lavish wedding? indeed were they married? have they had a baby since? how have their circumstances job wise changes in the few years since they were laughing at Bertie?
They surely wouldn’t be laughing with Bertie now.
We didn’t know that the next steps were into an economic and social nightmare….

‘Good Morning Voter from your Local Representative’- Bertie Ahern -Fianna Fail 2007 Dublin Central February 2, 2010

‘Good Morning Voter from your Local Representative’, Bertie Aherns letter that arrived on door steps on Election day 2007 in Dublin Central.
Bertie writes that “Its a choice whether Ireland goes forward or back, between costed policies that are working or a gamble with Irelands future”.
Was it not Bertie that gambled with Irelands future?
Bertie also shows where his preference lies regarding Cyprian Brady.

Leaflet advertising ‘Berties Walkabout’ -Phibsboro 1993 December 22, 2009

A leaflet advertising Berties forthcoming Walkabout in the St Peters Parish area along with Tony Kett. I had thought that ‘Berties Walkabouts’ were somewhat impromptu but it wasn’t the case.
Like an awful lot to do with the Ahern organisation it had a military precision about it.
The Advice Centres are held in conjunction with Tony Kett and Willie O’Byrne.
Tony Kett was a councillor and later a senator. In the obituary of Tony Kett, Bertie Ahern wrote that he was ‘a man I am so proud to have been able to call my best friend’.
Willie O’Byrne stood for Fianna Fail in the 1991 local elections but failed to win a seat.
Throughout the Advice centre details, Bertie puts emphasis on the fact that he would deal with any queries ‘personally’.

The letter that got Cyprian Brady elected -Fianna Fail 2007 -Dublin Central December 8, 2009

The night before the 2007 General Election, this leaflet was distributed in almost all areas (note the ‘your area’) of Dublin Central (Such stunts are not unusual). Mary Fitzpatrick wasn’t best pleased, especially as she didn’t have time to respond before the election.
Having received just 939 first preference votes, Cyprian Brady gets elected. How? He got the lions share of transfers from Bertie Aherns surplus, it was enough to put him ahead of Mary Fitzpatrick. When Mary Fitzpatrick was eliminated, Cyprian got the bulk of her transfers and finished comfortably ahead of Paschal Donohoe to win the final seat.
So this letter was deemed to have worked.

Noel Ahern – Fianna Fail -1997 Dublin North West December 7, 2009

The then Taoiseach, Bertie Aherns, brother Noel Ahern from the 1997 General Election where he topped the polled getting over 1.5 quotas.

1997- Bertie- “A Young Leader for a Young Country” ‘..in politics only to serve the people’ October 25, 2009

“A Young Leader for a Young Country” who on the inside of this doc is  “A New Leader for a New Century”. The profile of Bertie “.. he is in politics only to serve the people” and other plaudits that in hindsight ring hollow.

This was one of a series of leaflets for the 1997 election produced by Fianna Fail. Some were on Crime, some on Drugs, some on Job creation and so on. The fact that there was a whole leaflet dedicated to their leader shows how much they played on ordinary Bertie who is in touch with the people. He was that important to them.

Berties Newsletter 1993 October 23, 2009

Berties Newsletter from around 1993 I think. Its some production and really illustrates the image on the ground as the person who gets jobs done. Literally every road in the area has had a problem addressed at Berties behest.

1992 Dublin Central, with redrawn boundaries, the constituency is reduced to 4 seats and of the 3 sitting Fianna Fail TDs,  John Stafford moves to Dublin North Central (where he lost out). Bertie romps home but neither of his running mates are elected despite Fianna Fail
