Patricia McKenna -‘Champion of Irish Democracy’ -Green Party -2007 GE Dublin Central
From the 2007 General election, a leaflet for Green Party candidate and former MEP Patricia McKenna running in Dublin Central.
She polled 1,995 votes and failed to win a seat.
The theme of Champion of Irish Democracy focuses on her Supreme court challenge on Referendum spending.

Mary Grehan -Independent -2002 GE Louth
From the 2002 General Election a flyer for the Late Mary Grehan running as an Independent in Louth where she polled 2,384 votes. A prominent Anti-Sellafield campaigner and well known GP in Dundalk, Mary Grehan had run for the PDs in 1997. For many years she was a member of both Louth County Council and Dundalk Town Council.
Her son Alan Grehan was elected in 2009 to Louth County Council and Dundalk Town Council.
“Rapists Out, Out, Out of ….” Poster from bus stop last week
I found this plastered to the bus stop last week and it has been put up fairly widely.
For legal reasons I’ve blacked out where it refers to as it may be a specific case.
I’m not sure who is behind it and am pretty sure it has nothing to do with Larry Murphy.
Sinn Fein anti Water Charges Leaflet September 11, 2010
I just think this is so simple and effective. They were left around shopping centres and were the same size as a 500 euro note!
Many thanks to the sender.
Save Saint Luke’s Cancer Hospital Campaign Leaflet September 10, 2010
A recent leaflet issued by the Save Saint Luke’s Cancer Hospital Campaign.
Minister Harney announced in 2005 that St James’ Hospital would be the southside centre of excellence with the consequence that down the line St Luke’s would close.
In 2006, St Luke’s patient Joe Guilfoyle started a national campaign to save St Luke’s which quickly gathered members all over Ireland.
Supporters of the campaign are encouraged to meet their local Fianna Fail or Green TD to discuss the issue.
At Present St Luke’s is due to be wound down and closed in 2014.
The campaign is not affiliated to any political party.

Many thanks to the campaign for sending me this.
Ivor Callely urging a ‘Tattooing and Piercing info campaign’ -From 1999
Happened upon this 1999 press release from Ivor Callely where he urges a ‘Tattooing and piercing info campaign’
Given his current difficulties his press release sounds even more bizarre. There must have been an uproar at the time on Joe Duffy about Tatoos and Piercings.

Tánaiste Mary Coughlan and Fianna Fail TD Noel O’Flynn-Their websites from 1999 September 9, 2010
Have been doing a bit of messing around with the wayback machine….
Here’s the websites of two Fianna Fail TDs from 1999
A Link to Tánaiste Mary Coughlans Website from 1999
And A Link to
Noel O’Flynns Website from 1999
Not all links work and things may be slow to load…
To be fair Mary Coughlans site wasn’t too bad.

Dessie Larkin , Peter Patton -Independent Fianna Fail -2004 Letterkenny Town Council
From the 2004 Local Elections a leaflet for Independent Fianna Fail candidates for Letterkenny Town Council Dessie Larkin and Peter Patton. Dessie Larkin was elected but Peter Patton missed out.
Dessie Larkin is the son of former Independent Fianna Fail Senator James Larkin (1985 Leaflet here).
The aims and objectives of the party are fairly good. There’s little or no mention of the British presence in the North which was a mainstay of their early policies until the peace process.
“Pheww! That was close! ..” Anti Levonelle Leaflet from the Christian Solidarity Party in 2003
From 2003 A leaflet issued by the Christian Solidarity Party against the availability of Levonelle. Levonelle is a morning after pill that works up to 72 hours after intercourse.
There were arguments about if it was covered or not by the various Abortion Referenda. Where it was seen by many as a contraceptive it was thought of by Pro Life lobby as an ‘Abortion Pill’.
‘One man and his dog’ -Eamon Gilmore -Democratic Left -1997 GE Dun Laoghaire.
One of my favourite Eamon Gilmore Leaflets. This one is from the 1997 General election when the then Minister of State for the Marine was running for the Democratic Left.
The casual picture of him walking the dog on the beach (Killiney beach?) to him purposefully strolling around the new ferry terminal in Dun Laoghaire.
There is also small pictures of him doing activities such as fishing and meeting people like Neil Kinnock.
The ‘NIREX dump’ refered to was a proposed underground nuclear waste dump near Sellafield.
