From the front page of The Irish Statesman an ad for Joseph Xavier Murphy and Independent who was running in Dublin County in the September 1927 General Election. Murphy was elected having polled 4207 votes. Murphy lost his seat in the 1932 General Election.

From the 1999 Booklet for the Fine Gael Ard Fheis, the photos from the Young fine Gael pages. Amongst others pictured is a young Leo Varadkar. Theres also a group in fancy dress with Nora Owen ‘Launching their passion for Europe Campaign’ for the Amsterdam Treaty .(The leaflets caused some controversy). Would love to know if there were any future TDs lurking in that fancy dress picture.

Sarah Ryan is a former Councillor for Dublins South East Inner City Ward where she lost her seat in 2009. She is the daughter of former TD and MEP Eoin Ryan , Granddaughter of former Senator Eoin Ryan Snr and a great granddaughter of former TD and Minister James Ryan. She is also related to amongst others former President Sean T O’Kelly.

From November 1982 an ad for a Pro Life Amendment Campaign Fashion Show in Tralee. The Fashion show was held six days after the November 1982 General Election and would have been part of The Pro life Amendment Campaigns efforts to have a Referendum on Abortion. The pressure from the campaign led to an Abortion Referendum less than a year later.
The Rosaleen O’Connell of Valentia island is mostlikely the wife of Kerry football legend Mick O’Connell, who was himself a former Councillor.

You can’t tell from the photo, but it’s actually just a little bigger than the size of a stamp. And, interestingly, there are two tiny holes in it, suggesting it was worn as a type of badge.

Something non political , but something that may be of interest. I found this wonderful article at home in a 1971 issue of ‘This Week’ magazine. Its about Charlie Chaplin and his family holidaying in Waterville County Kerry at Easter 1971.
There’s an RTE Radio Documentary ‘Kerry and the Tramp’
In the small village of Waterville County Kerry there stands a statue of the silver screen legend Charlie Chaplin. It’s presence pays homage to a cinema superstar who made Waterville his regular holiday home in the 60’s and 70’s. This documentary tells the story of how the Little Tramp ended up in love with this Kerry retreat.
