Two of a series of ‘NO THANKS’ posters used by Fine Gael in the 2007 General Election Campaign.
The ‘Secret FF/PD Deals with IRA Killers?’ would have referred to the release of Pearse McAuley who had been convicted of the Killing of Garda Gerry McCabe. The backdrop of the prison was I’m sure also a reminder of McDowells Thornton Hall project.
The other dealing with stealth taxes.
‘Secret FF/PD Deals with IRA Killers? NO THANKS’ -Fine Gael 2007 General Election August 27, 2010
Flyer from Philip Jenkinson -Fine Gael – Dublin North By-Election March 1998 August 22, 2010
From the 1998 Dublin North By-Election, a flyer for the Fine Gael Candidate Philip Jenkinson. He polled 3,185 votes in a contest won by Labours Sean Ryan.
The By-Election was caused by the resignation of Fianna Fail Ray Burke from allegations of Corruption.
Thus we have the line in the flyer, “I’m not in politics for myself. There has been too much of that recently.”

Gerry Breen, Tom Halligan -Fine Gael -1999 Local Elections -Clontarf August 20, 2010
From the 1999 Local Elections a leaflet for Fine Gael candidates Gerry Breen and Tom Halligan running in Clontarf. Gerry Breen was elected.
The Fine Gael slogan of ‘a new patriotism’ wasn’t exactly brilliant.
“Dr Bill – He’s on your side” -Bill Tormey-Independent -1997 General Election Dublin North West
In 1997 and even now Dr Bill was Dr Bill Tormey as opposed to Dr Bill Cullen. Tormey now a Fine Gael councillor had prior to being Independent, been a Labour Party candidate. (Dr Bill at electionsireland.org).
A Shamrock Rovers Fan of longstanding, Bill is a specialist in chemical pathology and general internal medicine and a consultant in Beaumont and Connolly hospitals. He is tipped by many to take a seat at the next General Election for Fine Gael.
Amongst the issues mentioned in the Flyer are The Port Tunnel, Water Charges and Residential Property Tax, the development of the New Town in Ballymun and Jobs.
Muriel O Tiarnaigh -Fine Gael -1985 Local Elections -Howth August 19, 2010
From the 1985 Local elections a letter to voters from Fine Gael candidate Muriel O Tiarnaigh. Muriel O Tiarnaigh failed to get in. I think her colleagues Michael Joe Cosgrave and Joan Maher were elected.
Muriels husband the late Riocard O Tiarnaigh was well known in sailing circles and there is a race the ‘Riocard O’ Tiarnaigh Challenge’ named after him.
Muriel was a member of the influential Womens Political Association.

A problem between a search for a Fine Gael Councillor, the Fine Gael Website and Google? August 18, 2010
Over the last few weeks I happened to be doing searches for Fine Gael councillors.
Often the first result is the profile from the Fine Gael website.
Here I searched for Fine Gael councillor Donal Marren, but its the same issue for all of them.
Click on the link and you get brought to http://www.finegael.org/
You’d wonder how long this has been the case?
Regina Doherty -Fine Gael -Meath East 2007 GE August 13, 2010
From the 2007 General Election a leaflet fro Fine Gael candidate Regina Doherty running in Meath East. She polled well but missed out on a seat.
Like a lot of Fine Gael leaflets from 2007 there was little or nothing about the candidate themselves.
‘Sick of hearing about Irelands problems?’ -Pat Crimmins -Fine Gael -2009 LE Donaghmede August 10, 2010
From the 2009 Local Elections a leaflet for successful Fine Gael candidate Pat Crimmins running in Donaghmede.
Little or nothing about the candidate (which from looking at some 2009 and 2007 Fine Gael material is less than unusual) other than a photo.
It does concentrate on waste, unemployment and job creation. Nothing in it about the Banking crisis.

Discussion Paper on Forestry from the 1985 Fine Gael Ard Fheis August 6, 2010
From the 1985 Fine Gael Ard Fheis a discussion paper on Forestry. In the mid 80s Forestry was seen as a long term jobs provider. Trees grew faster in Ireland than in Scandinavia and also grew on bad land.
Fidelma Healy Eames, Sean Kyne, Padraic McCormack -Fine Gael -2007 GE Galway West August 4, 2010
From the 2007 General Election a flyer for Fine Gael candidates Fidelma Healy Eames, Sean Kyne and Padraic McCormack running in Galway West.
Despite hopes of a second seat, Padraig McCormack was the only Fine Gael candidate Elected.

“Thank You From Marie” -Marie Baker -Fine Gael -2004 LE Blackrock July 30, 2010
From the 2004 Local elections in Blackrock, a flyer from Fine Gael Candidate Marie Baker thanking voters for electing her.

“Dont Prop Up A Rotten Cause” and other Cumann na nGaedhael Posters from the 1932 General Election July 27, 2010
Many thanks to the sender.
A series of wonderful Cumann na nGaedhael Posters from the 1932 General Election.
Leaflet with details of the 2007 Fine Gael Ard Fheis July 22, 2010
From 2007 a leaflet for the 2007 Fine Gael Ard Fheis to be held in City West. The Ard Fheis was a number of weeks before the Election and there is a rousing message from Enda.
“This is it!” writes Enda … “The future of this country is up to us. Because, In Fine Gael, we don’t want to win just to keep the seats warm. No. We want to win so we can make a difference….”
There is also a ‘Whats Happening..’ section where we see that the music on the Saturday Night is provided by The Heartbeats (On their Website they list Bertie Ahern as one of their previous Clients).
‘The Shadow Of The Gunman -Keep It From Your Home’ and other Cumann na nGaedhael Posters July 20, 2010
The famous ‘The Shadow Of The Gunman -Keep It From Your Home’ Poster from Cumann na nGaedhael. It was from the 1932 General Election. The other Posters I think are from 1932 also.
There was some imagination used in the making of the posters and through some of the messages you can see that The Civil War was still fresh in the Poster Designers minds.
Many thanks to the sender.

Kieran O’Donnell -Fine Gael -Limerick East 2007 GE July 8, 2010
From the 2007 General Election a leaflet for Fine Gael candidate in Limerick East Kieran O’Donnell. O’Donnell polled 5,094 votes and was elected.
He is the nephew of former TD and MEP Tom O’Donnell.
