From a 1992 Progressive Democrat leaflet Dessie O’Malley outlines the position of the party regarding the 3 Abortion Referenda to be held on the same day as the General Election. Whilst they asked for a YEs vote for the Right to Travel and Right to Information, they asked for a NO vote on the Abortion issue. Many of the reasons for voting against the Referendum outlined by O’Malley are just as relevant today as they were then.

“The Government You Deserve” -Progressive Democrats 1989.. with a great attack on Fianna Fail January 18, 2013
From the 1989 General Election campaign an ad from the Progressive Demcorats “The Government You Deserve”. In it is a fairly ironic attack on Fianna Fail..
Fianna Fail does not have the vision, the policies or the people to be entrusted with running our country for the next five years. They’re a party of strokes and slush funds, of planning scandals and blatant favourtism…
It argues for a vote for the Progressive Democrats and Fine Gael, who went into that 1989 General Election in an alliance.
The irony of the attack on Fianna Fail…. The PDs went into government with Fianna Fail after this 1989 election. A historic government as Fianna Fail for the first time went into coalition and seen as a betrayal by many FF people at the time. I think it was Albert Reynolds who called it a ‘Temporary Little Arrangement”.

From 2006 “A New Heart for Dublin” -Progressive Democrat Proposals for a new High Rise Quarter where Dublin Port was (with great pics) November 29, 2011
This is quite interesting, its from early 2006 and the PD’s propose moving Dublin Port to Drogheda using a comparison with Helsinki. The move was to happen over a 20 year period with a ‘New Quarter’ proposed where Dublin Port was.
This ‘New Quarter’ was to be filled with high rise buildings, a port for cruise liners and much more.
As the last days of the Celtic Tiger were still in full swing the image of what Dublin may have looked like had the madness gone on.
