A 1981 fundraising letter from Paddy Kavanagh (with post compliments of Liam Kavanagh) to Labour Party Wicklow members promoting “A Sweepstakes on the Aintree Grand National” .

From the 2009 Local Elections a leaflet for Sinn Fein candidate Séamus Mac Floinn who was running in the Stillorgan LEA. He polled 154 votes. Pictured with him are Brian McNally, Shaun Tracey and Oonagh O’Reilly.

A Flyer from Joan Collins -People Before Profit -Crumlin Kimmage 2009 Local Elections August 25, 2010


From the 2009 Local Elections a flyer from People Before Profit candidate Joan Collins running in the Crumlin-Kimmage Ward for Dublin City Council.
Having been initially elected on an Anti Bin Tax ticket in 2004, she increased her percentage of the vote and was comfortably elected.
She is tipped as having a decent chance of winning a seat at the next General Election.

‘A Voice For Donnybrook’ -Tom Crilly, Angie Murphy -Workers Party- 1991 Local Elections


From the 1991 Local Elections a Leaflet from Workers Party Candidates Tom Crilly and Angie Murphy running in the Pembroke Ward. Crilly polled 486 votes and Murphy polled 321 votes, neither were elected.
The leaflet is interesting in that it is very Green and in some respects ahead of the Greens at the time. For instance regarding water
“... We have campaigned for improved water catchment process, an integrated reservoir system, upgrading of mains…
Amongst other items mentioned are Smokeless coal, Tenants rights and the lack of recycling facilities.
We also learn that ‘the average house price in Dublin is a staggering £63,000‘.

‘Sugar Daddy is Back!’ – from 2007 -Jackie Healy Raes acceptance speech in Kenmare.


I had forgotten about this, having been kept sweet by Fianna Fail and The PDs for 5 years with a deal, Jackie Healy Rae is introduced by the MC with the words ‘Sugar Daddy is Back!’ to which the crowd responds to with chants of    ‘Siucra, Siucra, Siucra…..’

 

‘How Labour has made the Vital Difference’ -Tommy Broughan, Sean Kenny -Labour Party-1997 General Election Dublin North East


From the 1997 General Election a leaflet for Labour candidates Sean Kenny and Tommy Broughan. Both had been elected in the Spring Tide of 1992 as Labour took 30% of the vote in Dublin North East. In 1997 with the Labour vote down Tommy Broughan held on to his seat whilst Sean Kenny lost out.
The main thing in this leaflet is ‘How Labour has made the Vital Difference’ with stats galore comparing the 1992-1997 period to the previous Fianna Fail/PD government.
You will also notice the Partnership Works Slogan that Labour , Fine Gael and Democratic Left had in the 1997 Election.

Gerry Horkan -Fianna Fail -Stillorgan -2009 Local Elections August 23, 2010


From the 2009 Local elections a leaflet for Fianna Fail candidate in Stillorgan Gerry Horkan.
Having initially been co-opted to replace Don Lydon in 2003, he held his seat in 2004 and again in 2009. He is one of the four Fianna Fail Councillors on Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council.

From the 2009 Local Elections a leaflet for Labour candidate Ian McGahon running for Bray Town Council. McGahon running in the Bray West Ward polled 395 votes.

 

From 1979- Labour Party ‘Victory Dinner’ in honour of Liam Kavanagh Menu with Toasts and Autographs August 22, 2010


First off man thanks to the sender. A Charming item.
From 1979 a Menu for the Labour Party Victory dinner held in honour of the election of Wicklow TD Liam Kavanagh to the European Parliament.
Amongst the menu are some delights such as Grapefruit Marachino and Brussels Sprouts Chateau (presumably in honour of the new Job in Brussels).
There is also a list of Toasts, proposed by various luminaries such as Michael O’Leary, Brendan Halligan and Justin Keating.
On the back of the Menu there was a page for autographs.
This one has Brendan Halligans, Liam Kavanaghs and another which is difficult to identify.

Brian Byrne -Independent -Donaghmede 2009 LE


From the 2009 Local Elections a leaflet for Former Fianna Fail councillor Brian Byrne running as an Independent in Donaghmede.
Byrne resigned from Fianna Fail claiming that the cutbacks in the Budget showed Fianna Fail had “lost touch with ordinary people and have failed to listen to their concerns”.
Cutbacks in spending programmes announced in the budget have resulted in pain and distress being inflicted on the elderly and less well off in our society,”
Byrne polled well with 1,202 votes but failed to get in.

Flyer from Philip Jenkinson -Fine Gael – Dublin North By-Election March 1998


From the 1998 Dublin North By-Election, a flyer for the Fine Gael Candidate Philip Jenkinson. He polled 3,185 votes in a contest won by Labours Sean Ryan.
The By-Election was caused by the resignation of Fianna Fail Ray Burke from allegations of Corruption.
Thus we have the line in the flyer, “I’m not in politics for myself. There has been too much of that recently.

‘The Recovery is Green’ -David Geary -Green Party -2009 Dublin Central By Election


‘The Recovery is Green’ writes Green Party candidate for the 2009 Dublin Central by-election David Geary. In a constituency not known for a large Green Vote, Geary polled 819 votes as Maureen O’Sullivan won the seat. Geary also stood in the Local Elections in The North Inner City ward, where he polled 519 votes and failed to get in.

“Dr Bill – He’s on your side” -Bill Tormey-Independent -1997 General Election Dublin North West


In 1997 and even now Dr Bill was Dr Bill Tormey as opposed to Dr Bill Cullen. Tormey now a Fine Gael councillor had prior to being Independent, been a Labour Party candidate. (Dr Bill at electionsireland.org).
A Shamrock Rovers Fan of longstanding, Bill is a specialist in chemical pathology and general internal medicine and a consultant in Beaumont and Connolly hospitals. He is tipped by many to take a seat at the next General Election for Fine Gael.
Amongst the issues mentioned in the Flyer are The Port Tunnel, Water Charges and Residential Property Tax, the development of the New Town in Ballymun and Jobs.
