Independent candidate Dean O’Nualláin from the 1997 General Election in Dublin South Central. He received 80 votes.
With all the immigrants coming into the country he wanted Dubliners to be a higher priority than them.

The Tax Reform League candidate, Mairead Duchon from the 1987 General Election in Dublin South.
The Tax Reform League stood in the 1987 General Election (I’m not sure if they were a registered party). Aside from Mairead Duchon, who got 1253 votes, they fielded at least 3 other candidates.
Camella Cummins stood in Meath getting 636 votes.
Timothy Cahill stood in Dublin South Central and got 711 votes.
Patrick McKiernan stood in Cavan-Monaghan getting 1,868 votes.
Esther Uzzell standing for Justice for her brother Joe Rafferty in the 2007 General Election in Dublin South East.
Full details of the Campaign at justice for joe campaign
Esther on her campaign is pictured with then US President Georgr Bush and also with Hilary Clinton.

Sean ‘Buggy’ Horan was one of the characters around Maynooth in the late 80s and known to many who frequented ‘The Roost’.
This is Buggy Horans 1991 leaflet where he contested in the Celbridge Local Electoral area. (The result on electionsireland.org)
He sadly passed away in early 2012
Independent Councillor Guss O’Connell from the 2004 Local Elections. Guss who worked for FAS at the time.
Cork Based Lily Moynihan from the 2004 European Elections. She stood on a justice reform and victim rights ticket.
The RTE profile from the time wrote…”She has been active, but unsuccessful, in demanding prosecution of those believed to be responsible for the death of her 23-year-old son, Adrian, who was killed during an altercation with nightclub bouncers in 2001. Her husband, who went on hunger strike outside the Dáil on two separate occasions in 2003 to highlight the case, is her election agent.

This the Late Tony Gregorys Leaflet from the 1991 Local Elections (From my own collection I see that Tony Gregory used this style leaflet for the 1985 Local Elections as well as the 1987,1989 and 1992 General elections so they can be confusing to date) . In it he mentions support of the Postal Workers who went on Strike in 1991.
One of his major issues, especially in the 80s and 90s, was that when developments were taking place in the area , local labour was not often enough employed, this is referenced here with regard to the Custom House scheme. The small bit about ‘ …strongly supports Tax relief for mortgage holders’ .. is a rebuttal of a constant issue that was used to attack the left, and scare the middle classes, at the time. Labour also came in for the same treatment in 1991 and the 1992 General election (an example) .
Tony Gregory is also pictured with the Street Traders, fighting for their rights he ended up in Mountjoy. His record as a founder member of the Concerned Parents is there also.

Finian McGrath from his first General Election in 1992 where he gained 764 votes. His vote in the 1997 GE increased and in 1999 he won a seat on Dublin City Council.
He was Elected to the Dail in 2002 when standing as part of the Independents Health Alliance.
His record as a fighter for the rights of the vulnerable is listed here as is his emphasis on Jobs and Health.
Karen Canning of the The Independents Health Alliance who stood eight candidates in the 2002 General Election.
Amongst them Finian McGrath who was elected. Others included the now Fine Gael Councillor Molly Buckley in Laois Offaly and former Limerick Hurling manager Tom Ryan.
Karen Canning polled over 2000 votes which was impressive.

Luke ‘Ming’ Flanaghan once considered a joke candidate as he campaigned for the legalisation of Cannabis and once sent a joint to each member of the Oireachtas as part of the campaign. He modeled himself on ‘Ming The Merciless’ from the Flash Gordon series.
Elected first in the 2004 local elections, where he topped the poll, he has gained a reputation as an excellent councillor which was reflected in 2009 when he was returned on the first count again.
He has a special interest in gaining recreational facilities for Castlerea. After his 2004 election, in relation to recreational facilities he was quoted “I’m not exactly looking for the Olympics to be held in Castlerea, but we are asking for something to be done.”

This is from either Dublin South 2007 (or Meath 2005?). Liam O’Gogain continuing his election campaigns to promote fathers rights.
Simple but effective messages.

Eamonn Murphy from the 1994 European elections. It has one of the strangest reasons to vote for a person I’ve seen.
Based on an apparition of the Blessed Virgin to a Japanese Stigmatist in 1973, accepted by the now Pope Benedict XVI (Cardinal Ratzinger) , Murphy wants to prepare for the prophesies and other forthcoming disasters by maximizing food production.
He is also a Pro Life Candidate. He had stood for the Short Lived Christian Centrist Party in 1991 and was standing for a group called
“Independent European Alliance’ in 1994.
Amongst those he outpolled in 1994 were PD candidate Stephen O’Byrnes, Fianna Fails Olive Braiden and Sinn Feins Larry O’Toole.
The then Independent Peter Ormond from the 1999 local elections in Birr where he was elected.
He duly switched to Fianna Fail and was elected in 2004 and 2009 on the Fianna Fail ticket.
Peter Ormond illustrates here many of the issues that went ignored since 1999. Roads being flooded, planning issues and so on.

Michael Courtney from the 1999 Local Elections in Killarney where he was elected to the Town Council.
Tony Lowth from the 1991 Local elections in the North Inner City. Lowth a campaigner for deserted fathers (He took a number of legal cases regarding the fact that a deserted husband with dependents was not entitled to the same allowances as a deserted wife with dependents).
Leaflets and letter that accompanied them from Kevin O’Hare who ran as an Independent in Clontarf in the 2004 LE. Letter says how he got on.

Then Independent Councillor, now Fianna Fail TD Christy O’Sullivan from 2002 in Cork South West. (Thanks to Christy for sending me these leaflets in 2002) With Neighbouring Kerry South getting all sorts due to Jackie Healy-Rae, Christy O’Sullivan polled a good 3,609 votes in 2002 before topping the polling 2007 having joined Fianna Fail.
