From the 1985 Local elections a letter to voters from Fine Gael candidate Muriel O Tiarnaigh. Muriel O Tiarnaigh failed to get in. I think her colleagues Michael Joe Cosgrave and Joan Maher were elected.
Muriels husband the late Riocard O Tiarnaigh was well known in sailing circles and there is a race the ‘Riocard O’ Tiarnaigh Challenge’ named after him.
Muriel was a member of the influential Womens Political Association.

Muriel O Tiarnaigh -Fine Gael -1985 Local Elections -Howth August 19, 2010
Marian White Leaflet -Workers Party -1991 Local Elections Blackrock
From the 1991 Local Elections, a leaflet (the general one used by most WP candidates in that election) for Workers Party candidate Marian White running in Blackrock.
She narrowly missed out on a seat.
She stood subsequently for Democratic Left in the 1992 General Election in Dublin South and for Labour in the 1999 Local Elections in Blackrock but without gaining a seat.
“Fianna Fail -The party who care for the elderly, the young and those in need” -Limerick East 2007 General Election
Was sent this (many thanks). From the 2007 General Election campaign, a newspaper clipping (Limerick Leader?) of a Fianna Fail ad.
Above pictures of Fianna Fails Limerick East candidates Willie O’Dea, Peter Power and Noreen Ryan we have the Words….
“Fianna Fail -The party who care for the elderly, the young and those in need”
“This Constituency needs a Senior Government Minister” -Pat Rabbitte -2007 GE Dublin SW August 15, 2010
From the 2007 General Election in Dublin South West a flyer from the then Labour Leader Pat Rabbitte with the catchy headline “This Constituency needs a Senior Government Minister”.
The flyer continues that “Pat Rabbitte can be that Senior Minister” and the standard “No Seat is Safe”.
Pat Rabbitte was elected….. he didn’t become a “Senior Government Minister”.
“You Live in this Area- Vote for this Area” -Noel O’Flynn Fianna Fail -2002 GE Cork North Central August 14, 2010
From the 2002 General Election a leaflet for Cork North Central Fianna Fail TD Noel O’Flynn. O’Flynn seemingly under pressure for the seat issued this leaflet highlighting his connections with the local area.
He duly topped the poll.
Many thanks to the sender
Regina Doherty -Fine Gael -Meath East 2007 GE August 13, 2010
From the 2007 General Election a leaflet fro Fine Gael candidate Regina Doherty running in Meath East. She polled well but missed out on a seat.
Like a lot of Fine Gael leaflets from 2007 there was little or nothing about the candidate themselves.
Sylvia Hermon -Independent Unionist -North Down 2010 UK Election August 12, 2010
From the 2010 UK Election a leaflet for Independent candidate Sylvia Hermon running in North Down. She was easily elected.
Having been first elected in 2001 as an Ulster Unionist Party candidate, she quit the party in 2010 in protest at the UUP’s alliance with the Conservative Party. She is the widow of Sir Jack Hermon, former Chief Constable of the RUC.
‘Sick of hearing about Irelands problems?’ -Pat Crimmins -Fine Gael -2009 LE Donaghmede August 10, 2010
From the 2009 Local Elections a leaflet for successful Fine Gael candidate Pat Crimmins running in Donaghmede.
Little or nothing about the candidate (which from looking at some 2009 and 2007 Fine Gael material is less than unusual) other than a photo.
It does concentrate on waste, unemployment and job creation. Nothing in it about the Banking crisis.

A Bertie Ahern leaflet from the 1985 Local Elections. August 9, 2010
From The 1985 Local Elections a leaflet for Bertie Ahern. He was elected and in 1986 served as Lord Mayor of Dublin.
The Full Time Constituency office would not have been St Lukes which was bought in 1987.
Aside from all his various interests and positions held his advice clinics are listed.

Progressive Democrats Contract with the Commuter Belt -2007 GE August 7, 2010
from the 2007 General Election a leaflet ‘A Fair deal for Commuters’ issued by the Progressive Democrats.

Brian Fitzgerald -Independent -Meath East 2007 August 4, 2010
From the 2007 General Election in Meath East a leaflet from Independent candidate Brian Fitzgerald. He failed to get elected.
A former Labour Party TD for Meath, Fitzgerald was probably the most high profile departure from Labour in protest at the merger with Democratic Left.

Fidelma Healy Eames, Sean Kyne, Padraic McCormack -Fine Gael -2007 GE Galway West
From the 2007 General Election a flyer for Fine Gael candidates Fidelma Healy Eames, Sean Kyne and Padraic McCormack running in Galway West.

Micheál Martin “A politician who makes a Difference” -Fianna Fail- Cork South Central 2007
From the 2007 General Election a leaflet for Fianna Fails Micheál Martin running in Cork South Central.

From the 2007 Election… “Dont Gamble With Your Family’s Future -Vote No 1 Michael McDowell” August 3, 2010
From the 2007 General Election a leaflet from Progressive Democrat Candidate and Leader Michael McDowell running in Dublin South East.
A few years on the words look very ill chosen.
“Dont Gamble With Your Family’s Future -Vote No 1 Michael McDowell”
The back of the flyer with its ‘Long Lasting Prosperity’ looks like almost like a joke now.
“Thank You From Marie” -Marie Baker -Fine Gael -2004 LE Blackrock July 30, 2010
From the 2004 Local elections in Blackrock, a flyer from Fine Gael Candidate Marie Baker thanking voters for electing her.

Betty Coffey in Black and White .. “A Voice For The Liberal Agenda In Fianna Fail” -1992 GE -Dun Laoghaire July 28, 2010
From the 1992 General Election a leaflet for Fianna Fail candidate Betty Coffey running in Dun Laoghaire. Having narrowly missed out on a seat in 1989 she polled 2,119 votes and wasn’t in the mix for the final seat.
Her background is interesting and reflects Dun Laoghaire of the time. It was seen as one of the countries most liberal constituencies and also had the lowest percentage of Catholics.
Her leaflet has a section “Who can create the jobs?”
“Not the state. Not unless it raises taxes by climbing up on the breaking back of the PAYE worker. Not unless it puts us in hock for billions to make up a few hollow jobs in FAS type training schemes.”
The odd thing being that the 1992 Fianna Fail Manifesto called for State intervention in Job Creation , a 750 million pound Jobs Fund was to be set up.
John Gilligan – Independent -2009 LE Limerick July 25, 2010
From the 2009 Local Elections in Limerick a leaflet for Independent candidate John Gilligan.
A former Lord Mayor of Limerick, Gilligan was first elected to the council in 1991. He has been an outspoken critic of the gangs in the City and has played a prominent role in protests against them.
