From 1981 a small pamphlet produced by Sinn Fein’s Department of Women’s Affairs entitled “Abortion Ireland”. At the time the holding of an Abortion Referendum was a big issue and led to the first of our Abortion Referendums in 1983.

From the 1955 Westminster Elections a single page manifesto from Sinn Fein. Sinn Fein stood 12 candidates of which two, Tom Mitchell and Philip Clarke were elected.

Two wonderful leaflets for Eamon De Valera from the 1917 East Clare by election. One “A Message to the electors of East Clare from the people of Limerick” and the other “Dr O’Dwyer at Limerick 14th Sept., 1916”. De Valera defeated Patrick Lynch to win the seat. (telegram sent by De Valera to his wife with the result)

From the 1984 European Elections a leaflet for Fine Gael candidates Tom O’Donnell and Tom Raftery who were running in Munster. Both were elected.

From the 1987 General Election a leaflet fro Fine Gael candidates Paddy Cooney,Colm Smyth and Seamus Finnan running in Longford Westmeath. Former Minister of Justice Paddy Cooney was elected.
“Towards 1992 -Labour’s Agenda for Ireland” a interesting pamphlet from the Labour Party in the late 1980s with Labours concerns about the implementation in 1992 of The Single European Act.

From the 2004 Local Elections a leaflet from Independent Fianna Fail candidates Dessie Larkin and Maureen McLaughlin running in Letterkenny. Larkin, now a Fianna Fail councillor, topped the poll with 1,736 votes whilst McLaughlin polled 573 votes and missed out on a seat.
Other IFF material
From the 1999 European Elections in Dublin, a leaflet with the slogan “The European voice for Dublin” from Fianna Fail candidate Ben Briscoe. This was the longserving Dublin South Central TDs last electoral contest and he failed to win a seat with just over 25,000 votes.

From the 2004 Local and European Elections a leaflet for Maisy Houlihan running for Sinn Fein in Tralee and David Cullinane running for Sinn Fein in South.
Houlihan polled 527 votes and failed to win a seat on Kerry County Council, although she did win a seat on Tralee Town Council.
The Waterford based Cullinane polled 32,643 votes and missed out on a European seat.
A leaflet from ‘New Political Party’ Slí Níos Fearr giving details of their positions on various issues.
The party “aims to bring about the real changes we need in this country – the kind of common-sense reform you and I talk of on the radio ‘phoneins’ and down at the corner shop.”

From the 1981 General Election a leaflet from Labour Party candidate in Kerry South Michael Moynihan. In this 1982 General Election Moynihan won a seat. It was his first time to be elected to the Dail having stood six times previously the first attempt being as far back as 1954.
The leaflet covers local as well as National issues with a message from then Labour Leader Frank Cluskey.

From the 2004 Local Elections a leaflet from Owen Martin of The Workers Party running in Finglas. He polled 458 votes and missed out on a seat.
From the 1985 Local Elections a Leaflet for Joe Cummins, Patrick Power and Tony Roche who were running for Fianna Fail in Area 1 of Waterford Corporation. Power and Roche were elected.
Strangely enough I see no record of Joe Cummins running but two other Fianna Fail candidates Larry Dower and Ann O’Rourke are listed in the results I have.
From the 1984 European Elections a leaflet from Fianna Fail candidates Sylvester Barrett, Gene Fitzgerald and Noel Davern. In a geographically spread ticket the Clare based Barrett and Cork based former Minister for Finance Fitzgerald were both elected, whilst the Tipperary based outgoing MEP Davern lost his seat.
From the November 1982 General Election a Leaflet for Dan Kiely, Denis Foley and Tom McEllistrim who were running for Fianna Fail in Kerry North. Foley and McEllistrim were elected.
Interesting to note Dan Kielys mention of the Pro Life Amendment.
From the 1989 European Elections a leaflet from former leader of The Alliance Party and prominent Civil Rights movement figure John Cushnahan running for Fine Gael in Munster. Cushnahan polled 43,326 votes and was elected. He was returned again in 1994 and 1999.
Meant to post this up a while back, its a leaflet from James Lawless running for the Committee of Twenty at the 2012 Fianna Fail Ard Fheis. He was successful.
