A beautiful calendar created to mark the 50th Anniversary of The Easter Rising. Each month is beautifully illustrated and has a piece on The Rising, the lead up to it, The War of Independence and John F Kennedy at Arbour Hill. Each date carries an anniversary of what happened on that day. A really fantastic piece of History.

A wonderful leaflet from Fianna Fail Dublin Bay South candidate Jim O’Callaghan, which contains a map with details of 32 Historical sites connected to The Rising in the constituency.

Easter Rising Centenary leaflet from Seán Haughey -Fianna Fail -Dublin Bay North #ge16 January 25, 2016


An impressive Easter Rising Centenary leaflet from Seán Haughey who is running for Fianna Fail in Dublin Bay North.
The leaflet contains a fascinating account of the activities of Seán Lemass during Easter week 1916. Seán Lemass being the grandfather of Seán Haughey. Aptly enough the leaflet also contains a section “Was your family involved in the events of 1916”.

A picture of The Fianna Fail party members elected in the June 1927 General Election. It’s from a 1993 publication “Ceiliúradh an 60ú Árd Fheis” which was a special programme for the party’s 60th Ard Fheis.
Given the centenary of the Easter Rising, it’s interesting to note that among those elected for Fianna Fail in this June 1927 Election, were many associated with the Rising. Those associated with the rising included Seán Lemass, Kathleen Clarke, James Ryan, Gerald Boland, Sean T O’Kelly,Seán MacEntee, Richard Buckley, Patrick Belton, Éamon de Valera, Constance Markievicz, Paddy Smith and Thomas Derrig.

Letter from Jeremiah McVeagh – 1925 Seanad Election January 5, 2016

From the 1925 Seanad Election a Letter from Jeremiah McVeagh. According to his Wikipedia entry…“He was first elected as the Irish Parliamentary Party MP for the South Down constituency at the 19 February 1902 by-election,and was again re-elected at the 1906, January 1910, December 1910 and 1918 general elections, and served until 1922 as member of the Nationalist Party.
In 1913 he presented the Jeremiah MacVeagh Cup to the Down County GAA Board. The Cup has been presented to the winners of the annual Down Senior Hurling Championship ever since.”
The 1925 Seanad Election was the only time that a portion of the Seanad was elected by General Franchise. 19 of the 60 seats were elected in 1925 with 76 candidates going forward , details here.
The leaflet turned up in the Redemptorist Provincial Archive in Dublin, which has a Facebook Page which is well worth a look.

Leaflet from Liam de Róiste – 1925 Seanad Election January 1, 2016


From the 1925 Seanad Election a Leaflet from Cork based Liam de Róiste, a former Sinn Fein TD/MP he served in the First, Second and third Dails. He did not stand in 1923 and stood without success for Cumann na nGaedheal in the June 1927 General Election. Souvenir Programme for the 1952 Jim Larkin Memorial Fund match between Drumcondra and Doncaster Rovers November 28, 2015


The Souvenir Programme for the Jim Larkin Memorial Fund match between Drumcondra and Doncaster Rovers held in Dalymount Park held on the 9th of May 1952. The programme has a piece on Larkin , The Workers Union of Ireland, and the Memorial fund which aimed to Build a Jim Larkin Memorial Hall. The game was started by Oscar Traynor and it was quite an impressive Drumcondra line up.

The September 1983 edition of the Ulster Defence Association newsletter ‘Ulster’ which is in uploaded in pdf form.
Among the items covered are Anti Segregation protests, threats to criminals from the UDA, plenty of small pieces about Gerry Adams and Cardinal O’Fiach, a piece on Rose Harvey and Dominic McGlinchey.

Leaflet from Frank Ryan and George Gilmore -Republican Congress – 1936 Local Elections


From the 1936 Local Elections a leaflet from Frank Ryan and George Gilmore who were running for Republican Congress in The Dublin North West Ward and The Dublin North East Ward. Gilmore polled 730 votes and Ryan polled 418 votes. Both Ryan and Gilmore lived in interesting times. Both had been involved in the IRA and Ryan fought in the Spanish Civil War.

The July 15th Newsletter from The Birmingham Six Committee. It contains details of events and support recieved by the group at the time.
The Birmingham Six were Hugh Callaghan, Richard McIlkenny, Paddy Joe Hill, Gerry Hunter, Billy Power and John Walker. They had been sentenced to life imprisonment in 1975 for the Birmingham pub bombings. On the 14th of March 1991, their convictions were declared unsafe and unsatisfactory and quashed by the Court of Appeal and the men were released.
