The July 15th Newsletter from The Birmingham Six Committee. It contains details of events and support recieved by the group at the time.
The Birmingham Six were Hugh Callaghan, Richard McIlkenny, Paddy Joe Hill, Gerry Hunter, Billy Power and John Walker. They had been sentenced to life imprisonment in 1975 for the Birmingham pub bombings. On the 14th of March 1991, their convictions were declared unsafe and unsatisfactory and quashed by the Court of Appeal and the men were released.
Many thanks to the sender.

It asked the recipient to light six candles in the window on Christmas Day to show your belief in the innocence of Hugh Callaghan, Paddy Hill, Gerard Hunter, Richard McIlkenny, William Power and John Walker.
It also asked the recipients to write to Douglas Hurd, Peter Barry, TDs , MP and other bodies.
The Birmingham Six were wrongly convicted of the 1974 Birmingham Pub Bombings and sentenced to life imprisonment in 1975. After a long campaign they were released in 1991.

1989 – The Parade of Innocence September 24, 2009

25 years ago, A parade to celebrate the release of the Guildford Four and to continue to the pressure for the release of the Birmingham Six. The Birmingham Six were eventually released in March 1991.

The Birmingham Six, Guildford Four and The Maguire Seven were amongst the wrongful (and plainly so) convictions of Irish men and women in Britain during the troubles. Their cases were constantly covered by media for years before their eventual release and exoneration.

Communist Party Of Ireland (Marxist-Leninist)- ‘Marxist-Leninist Weekly’ Feb 3rd 1988 September 22, 2009

A copy of Marxist-Leninist Weekly from 3rd Feb 1988. Hits out at Britain and also Israeli Zionism. I’m not sure if this is the full version of the paper or a smaller pamphlet (Tabloid!) version of that weeks edition.

I can only presume that the group organizing the advertised Rally and march to the British Embassy ,”The Spirit of Freedom Committee” was the CPI-ML in ‘disguise’. A theme that runs through a lot of the Irish Left literature I have and I’d imagine internationally.
