Leaflet from Erskine Childers – Fianna Fail -1973 Presidential Election June 28, 2012
From the 1973 Presidential Election a leaflet for Fianna Fail candidate Erskine Childers. Childers, a TD from 1938 until 1973, had spells as Tánaiste , Minister for Posts and Telegraphs, Minister for Transport and Power, Minister for Lands and Minister for Health. The leaflet mentions his work and achievements as a Minister. It also mentions , which is possibly a reflection on the power of television in 1973 that he “has spoken on Irish affairs on virtually every Television Service in Europe and America”
It also features a family picture which includes current Labour Party MEP Nessa Childers.
He was elected to the Presidency in this 1973 election, sadly he passed away on the 17th of November 1974 and he was succeeded as President by Cearbhall Ó Dálaigh.

Flyer from Michael Donnelly, Mary Hanafin, Derek Mooney -Fianna Fail -1991 Local Elections-Rathmines June 27, 2012
From the 1991 Local Elections a flyer for Fianna Fail candidates Michael Donnelly, Mary Hanafin and Derek Mooney who were running in Rathmines. Michael Donnelly topped the poll with 1,985 votes whilst Mary Hanafin polled 1,083 votes and lost the seat she had won in 1985. Derek Mooney polled 309 votes and also missed out. (Result here)

Flyer from Brian Lenihan -Fianna Fail -1996 Dublin West By Election June 25, 2012
From the 1996 Dublin West By-election a flyer for the late Brian Lenihan Junior. The by-election took place due to the death of Brian Lenihan Senior. It was the then 36 year old Brian Lenihan Juniors first electoral outing and he won the seat polling 6,995 votes and topping the poll. He held the seat until his passing on the 10th of June 2011.

Gerard Brady, Seamus Kenny, Pól Mac Murchú and Noirin Slattery- Fianna Fail 1979 Local Elections Area 9 Dublin
From the 1979 Local Elections a leaflet for Gerard Brady, Seamus Kenny, Pól Mac Murchú and Noirin Slattery who were running for Fianna Fail in area 9 (Rathfarnham/Rathmines) for seats on Dublin Corporation.
Gerard Brady was the only Fianna Fail candidate elected polling 2789 votes, MacMhurchú polled 896 votes, Slattery 545 votes and Kenny 404 votes.

The highlights from the Fianna Fail local elections manifesto are also included. Amongst them ‘Building Societies have been told to redirect more funds to first time buyers’ and “A fireplace provided for all tenants in Local Authorities housing”

From the 1979 European Elections a leaflet from Fianna Fail candidates for Dublin Ruairi Brugha, Sile De Valera, Joe Fox and Michael Yeats. Of the four candidates just Sile De Valera was elected. Result here
The leaflet also contains a message from then Taoiseach Jack Lynch.
Its an interesting line up in that Ruairi Brugha was the son of Cathal Brugha, Sile DeValera the Granddaughter of Eamon DeValera and Michael Yeats son of the Poet WB Yeats.

1981 leaflet for Lorcan Allen, Sean Browne, Gus Byrne, Hugh Byrne -Fianna Fail- Wexford June 23, 2012
From the 1981 general election a leaflet from Wexford Fianna Fail candidates Lorcan Allen, Sean Browne, Gus Byrne, Hugh Byrne. The FF ticket would have been unusual in that all four names would have been at the top of the ballot paper. Despite that only Lorcan Allen and Hugh Byrne were elected and Sean Browne lost his seat.
Aside from profiles and a message from the candidates ,We also have Haugheys message to the electorate from that 1981 election.

From the 1965 General Election a leaflet from Fianna Fail candidates Honor Crowley and Timothy ‘Chub’ O’Connor running in Kerry South. Both were elected.
The leaflet also has the Fianna Fail slogan from that election “Let Lemass Lead on”
We also have the message to the electorate from Sean Lemass. Which boasts of the progress made to date but that “Everything depends on the country’s agricultural and industrial production continuously increasing..”
Flyer from Sean Moore, Kit Robinson, Ciaran O’Loughlin -Fianna Fail -1979 Local Elections June 15, 2012
From the 1979 Local Elections a flyer for Fianna Fail candidates Sean Moore, Kit Robinson and Ciaran O’Loughlin who were running in Area 10.
Moore polled 2,787 votes and was easily elected, whilst Robinson polled 526 votes and O’Loughlin 698.
Sean Moore was first elected to the Council in 1950 and was a TD for Dublin South East from 1965 to February 1982. Sean Moore Road and Sean Moore Park in Irishtown are named after him.

Leaflet from Seán Martin (Brother of Micheál Martin)- Fianna Fail -2004 Local Elections -Cork South Central June 12, 2012
From the 2004 Local Elections a leaflet from Fianna Fail candidate Sean Martin who was running in the Cork South Central Ward for a seat on Cork City Council. Martin was elected polling 1,191 votes.
Originally co-opted to the council in 1997 to replace his brother, and now Fianna Fail leader, Micheál Martin, Seán Martin was reelected in 1999, 2004 and 2009. He was Lord Mayor of Cork for 2004-2005.

A wonderful piece of history this. From the 1966 Presidential Election a leaflet from Eamon De Valera with the slogan “President of the Nation”. Inside he is pictured at the celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of the 1916 rising. There is also a section outlining his “50 years of service to the nation” as well as a good deal of the leaflet in Irish.

From the Clar of the 1980 Fianna Fail Ard Fheis the report of the National Executive by Liam O’Rian.We also have details of the Fianna Fail National Executive with the number of meetings attended by each member. Also of interest is the Number of Cumainn registered in each constituency for 1979 with details of the 1978 numbers. Donegal had the most and there was total of 2,475 Cumainn Nationally.

In 2009 Gerard O’Brien was elected to Thurles Town Council for Fianna Fáil.
Gerard is an incredible guy who was born without any arms and just one leg due to the Thalidomide drug.
He was a secondary school teacher in Monkstown CBS. Re-trained as a solicitor and founded a practice in Thurles.
He conducted Thurles Folk Group and founded the Phoenix Musical Society.
In 2012 Gerard was appointed State Solicitor for North Tipp and was forced to resign from the Town Council.

“This card was given to my grandmother by her uncle after Ruari Bruagha joined FF.
I understand it is a card given to him at Cathal Bruagha’s anniversary mass a year or two after his death. He was a friend of the Bruagha family”

From the 1959 Presidential Election and the Referendum on the Change in Voting system a flyer urging a vote for Eamon De Valera for president and a Yes vote in the Referendum.
De Valera was elected defeating Sean MacEoin. The Referendum proposal was defeated 486,989 votes against to 453,322 votes in favour.
