Vote Sean MacEoin -Fine Gael – 1959 Presidential Election October 16, 2014


From the 1959 Presidential Election an ad for Fine Gael candidate General Sean MacEoin. MacEoin polled 417,536 votes in a contest won by Fianna Fails Eamon DeValera.
A veteran of the War of Independence, the Longford native was first elected to the Dail in 1929.

A ‘De Valera for President’ paper badge- 1959 Presidential Election June 22, 2013


From the 1959 Presidential Election a small paper De Valera for President badge.

You can’t tell from the photo, but it’s actually just a little bigger than the size of a stamp. And, interestingly, there are two tiny holes in it, suggesting it was worn as a type of badge.

“You must prevent future bad Governments by Abolishing P.R.”
Interesting to see too that PR is blamed for all sorts including having failed in Germany and Yugoslavia.

From 1959 a flyer to Vote De Valera for President and Yes to the Change in Voting System May 24, 2012


From the 1959 Presidential Election and the Referendum on the Change in Voting system a flyer urging a vote for Eamon De Valera for president and a Yes vote in the Referendum.
De Valera was elected defeating Sean MacEoin. The Referendum proposal was defeated 486,989 votes against to 453,322 votes in favour.
