From the 1999 Local Elections in Lucan a leaflet for then Labour candidate and now TD Joanna Tuffy. She was elected having polled 1,226 votes.

This is quite interesting in that it illustrates the protectionist part of the 1932 Fianna Fail manifesto that in part (along with the refusal to pay Land Annuities) led to the economic war with Britain from 1932 to 1938.
I wonder did Joe Dolan ever see it given the “More and More and More and More and More ….”

From the 2011 General Election a bumper sticker from Independent candidate Mick Wallace with the logo “Wallace For Wexford”

From 1932 a great ad from the teachers union the INTO looking for teachers to support the Labour Party.
“National Teachers -Since 1919 the Labour Party has been your one consistent Friend, Your Sole Defender”
Another batch of Anti Sinn Fein Posters/ Cartoons from the DUP produced in the mid 1990’s.
Another selection of them here
A wonderful anti apartheid poster “Stop Apartheid Now!” poster from Irish Charity Trócaire.
Many thanks to the sender.

From the DUP in the mid 1990’s a series of anti Sinn Fein and PUP posters/cartoons. They produced around 20 of them at the time. (I’ll post the rest in due course). Many of them are fairly blunt.

Interesting piece of history this an anti Clann Na Poblachta ad from Fianna Fail from the 1948 General Election Campaign.
The Fianna Fail candidates were Sean MacEntee (later Tainiste) and Michael Yeats (son of WB Yeats) and MacEntee was elected. Amongst the Clann Na Poblachta candidates was Noel Browne (who was also elected).
From the 1960 Local Elections an Ad for 3 Poblacht Chríostúil candidates Padraig Griffin, Liam Hearne and Liam Jackman who were running for seats on Waterford Corporation.
Griffin polled 102 votes, Hearne 162 votes and Jackman 64 votes with none of them being elected.
The second clipping is from the 1965 General Election campaign where Sylvester Cotter and Alex Miller were running in Cork Mid and Cork City. Cotter polled 498 votes whilst Miller polled 547 votes.
This piece explains the partys policies
The aims and ideals of this Irish Christian party, as published on its membership card are:
“1. To change the present political structure from contentious government to a form of Government based on Christian Principles and Social Justice,
“2. To foster a resurgence of true patriotism by stimulating interest in public and social administration through the study and application of Christian Social Principles.
“3. To prepare candidates for local and national office who will apply these principles for the common good.
“4. To oppose all subversive influences into our Christian and National Heritage.
“5. To work towards a planned economy aimed at the full development of the country’s resources with self-sufficiency and the repopulation of the country as primary considerations.”
According to their wikipedia entry ” Senator Eoghan Harris campaigned for the party and spoke at its rallies”

Was looking at the Fianna Fail website on archive.org when I came across this bizarre article from 2000. “Feng Shui our streets” an Article from the Fianna Fail Website from Marian McGennis TD.
“Feng Shui is the far eastern practice of organising your environment – your home for example – in order to live more harmoniously with the perceived energy fields around it. Originally used as a way of divining where to site graves, the credo was later applied to the arrangement of homes.”
“I would urge local authorities to consider the possible design applications of Feng Shui ,” added Deputy McGennis.
Marian McGennis served 5 years as a TD, her 1997 leaflet (with Bertie) is here.
Its funny what you can find in political ephemera … From the Clár for the 1980 Fianna Fail Ard Fheis a “sample of accommodation available for delegates” in Dublin City and suburbs.
A night B n B in the Burlington was £12.00 , whilst The Royal Dublin was the most expensive listed at a hefty £17.00 .

From the Clar of the 1980 Fianna Fail Ard Fheis ads for the Chairde Fail ‘Disco Dance’ featuring Larry Gogan and Tom Allen (TR Dallas) amongst others and also an ad for the ‘Fianna Fail Ard Fheis Draw’ which had decent enough prizes.

A Hunger Strike Memorial card issued by The Royal Victoria Hospital Workers Against H-Block/Armagh.
