From 1936 a poster for a meeting of the “Irish Christian Front” “…Ireland Rejects Communism” October 30, 2011
From 1936 a poster advertising a meeting to set up a branch of the Irish Christian Front in Rathmines Town Hall. ” Show by your presence at this meeting that Ireland Rejects Communism”.
More information on The Irish Christian Front here and from here a brief description of their aims..
The aim of the Irish Christian Front is to organise a united Irish front of all those who are opposed to Communism and its allies in Ireland, for the creation of a social order worthy of the Christian professions, and to send medical aid and supplies to the patriot soldiers of Spain, and to assist the refugee victims of the Red government.
Many thanks to the sender.
Cover and first page of a copy of The Irish Rush Light from 1831 September 2, 2011
Many thanks to the sender who notes …
Cover and first page of a copy of The Irish Rush Light, a political, Social, Literary magazine the details of which I cannot help you with, perhaps someone who views IEL might help us. That copy is from 1831 and is fascinating and in places, surprisingly forward thinking and enlightened.
Anyone know anything about the publication?
From 1924 a Share Cert and Refund from The Republican Press Fund a predecessor to the Irish Press. August 23, 2011
Two Items from The Republican Press Fund (of which I know little about). It appears to have been a fund for the setting up of a Republican Press similar to what was later the Irish Press.
The first item is a Share application, which is addressed to Erskine Childers and Charles Murphy TD. The second item is a note refunding the money which suggests it was unsuccessful.
“The Committee desire to thank you for your generous aid in the matter, and know that you regret as keenly as themselves the want of success which attended their efforts to promote a Republican Press”
The names on this refund are fairly interesting from an Irish Historical viewpoint. Austin Stack is listed as Chairman, Mary Alden Childers and C. O’Murcada are listed as Hon Treasurer.
Anyone know anymore about the fund?
“Rapists Out, Out, Out of ….” Poster from bus stop last week September 12, 2010
I found this plastered to the bus stop last week and it has been put up fairly widely.
For legal reasons I’ve blacked out where it refers to as it may be a specific case.
I’m not sure who is behind it and am pretty sure it has nothing to do with Larry Murphy.
A documentary -“Charles Haugheys Ireland” – Episode 1 July 23, 2010
Found this on Youtube a documentary series on Ireland presented by Charles Haughey.
Not sure why or when it was made.
Vote to Protect Family Farms- Richard Kennedy -IFA Presidential Election 2009 July 14, 2010
Unusual , but of I thought would be of interest. A leaflet from Richard Kennedy running in the 2009 election for President of the Irish Farmers Association.
Kennedys leaflet is focused in the main on the issues affecting Dairy Farmers. (I dont know if there were specific leaflets for specific sectors).
The winner of the contest John Bryan was (I’m told) focused on the import of Brazilian Beef.
Pictures of Sandycove Baths in 1942 July 7, 2010
Found these at home and thought them worth posting.
Two pictures taken at Sandycove baths near Dun Laoghaire in 1942. The Family would have been on Holiday in Dun Laoghaire at the time.
The detail isn’t great (the photos were matchbox sized) but it gives an idea what the baths looked like.
The baths closed in the early 1970s.
A 1990 Magazine Ad for New Houses in Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow …. with Prices… June 11, 2010
Nothing really to do with Elections but found this the other day from 1990. Thought it was of interest.
20 years ago Estate agents spouted as much awful rubbish as they do now.
Where recently houses were ’40 minutes from the M50′ , then they were ’20 minutes from Templeogue Bridge”

The second one is I gather taken later during the thaw and you can see the snow cleared to make the door accessible. Its of St Marks school in Tallaght.
The third one shows how cars were snowed in too.
