Sean Dublin Bay Loftus -Independent- 1997 General Election -Dublin North Central September 10, 2009

Alderman Sean, was elected to the Dail on just the one occassion in June 1981. Unluckily for him he lost his seat 8 months later at the Feb 82 election. He Stood in Dublin North Central.

This was just as the Tribunals had started and he is running on an ‘anti sleaze’ ticket. He makes some good observations in the manifesto.

For a period he was known as Sean Dublin Bay ‘Rockhall’ Loftus after a territorial dispute over Rockhall and its surrounding Waters.

Famous Cork Independent – Cllr Bernie Murphy-Cork NC and Cork SC 1987 September 9, 2009

1987 General election and Bernie Murphy, having been elected to the council two years previous to much ado, stands for the Dail. As you’ll read he was seen as a Joke candidate and his election caused uproar. The only manifesto I’ve ever bought.
Quite amusing and may bring back memories of the man to many Corkonians.

Leaflet from Christine Buckley -Independent- Dublin South 1997

Christine Buckley from Dublin South 1997 .

The horrific abuse carried out in Goldenbridge Orphanage came to light via the ‘Dear Daughter’ RTE documentary, which told Christine Buckleys story. She became central to the fight for recognition of the abuses that were carried out in State Institutions. … that eventually led to the Ryan Report and the more recent Murphy Report.

This is from 1997 , so is pre the  ‘States of Fear’ documentary which was another in a series of catalysts for the Church and State to admit their guilt.
She polled 1,268 votes.

A 2004 Clifford T Reid – ‘Stop The Paedophiles’ Election Flyer

From the 2004 Euro Elections a leaflet for Independent candidate Clifford T Reid. A fairly eye catching slogan, which had posters all around Leinster.
He polled 10,692 votes.
He since appeared on the RTE show Beyond Endurance where the volunteers in the show went to Antarctica to retrace some of Shackleton and Tom Creans footsteps.
