Flyer for Avril Doyle, Alan Gillis -Fine Gael -1999 European Elections Leinster June 18, 2011


From the 1999 European Elections a flyer for Fine Gael candidates Avril Doyle and Alan Gillis. Gillis an ex president of the IFA was a sitting MEP having won the seat in 1994. Doyle an ex TD for Wexford won a seat as Gillis lost his.
Doyle was returned again in 2004 and retired at the 2009 European Elections.

“Group Fixtures & Venues 2002 World Cup Korea Japan” -Brendan Brady -Fine Gael- 2002 General Election Dublin North West May 30, 2011


Candidates or TDs will often send a card with useful phone numbers (sometimes with a magnet so it can be stuck on the fridge), a guide to local services, Budget guides, guides to Benefits and so on all in the hope that you will hold on to them.
World Cups and other sporting occasions also lead to a flurry of leaflets with fixture guides and the like. This one is a fixture guide for the 2002 World Cup produced by Fine Gael Dublin North west candidate Brendan Brady. The 2002 General Election was held on the 17th of May and Brady polled 2,082 votes and missed out on a seat.

There is a profile of Garret, however  Garret does not have a personal message to the electorate, just a series of points with his picture above them which is highly unusual.

Leaflet from Garret Fitzgerald, Joe Doyle, Willie Egan -Fine Gael- Dublin South East- 1987 General Election


From the 1987 General Election a leaflet from outgoing Taoiseach , the late Garret Fitzgerald, the late Joe Doyle and Willie Egan running for Fine Gael in Dublin South East.
After five years in government, the Slogan for the election was “We’ve done the Groundwork -Now Let’s Build the Nation”.
Fitzgerald topped the poll but was unable to bring in either of his running mates as Joe Doyle lost his seat.

Garret Fitzgerald letter of retirement to constituents 1992


The Late Garret Fitzgerald writes thanking ‘all who have supported me in the eight general elections since 1969 in Dublin South East’.
He also asks for a number one vote for Frances Fitzgerald and number 2 for Joe Doyle.
In the end Frances Fitzgerald got in, but the second Fine Gael Seat was lost to Michael McDowell.

“9,233 Good Reasons to Vote For Me” -Pat Burton-Fine Gael- Agricultural Panel- 2011 Seanad Elections


From the 2011 Seanad Elections a leaflet from Fine Gael candidate Pat Burton who was running for a seat on the Agricultural Panel. Cork based Burton failed to win a seat. The “9,233 Good Reasons to Vote For Me” refers to his General Election vote where Burton polled 7,072 first preferences in Cork North Central, his final total after transfers being 9,233 votes.
