Irish Election Literature

… what you maybe meant to keep…

Leaflets from RTE’s The Week In Politics….. January 26, 2014

Filed under: Elections — irishelectionliterature @ 7:04 pm

If you’ve nothing better to do today, I’ll be on RTEs The Week in Politics doing a piece on election leaflets. Hopefully I didn’t curse , stood straight and kept my belly pulled in.
I had a few thousand leaflets etc with me but we just covered a table with a fraction of that. Its a small four minute piece so it was quick questions and some unusual leaflets and gimmicks.

The piece was recorded in The National Print Museum, which is where there will be an exhibition of leaflets, posters and other election/political related material starting at the end of March and running for two months or so. During the course of the run I will be doing a number of talks/tours … anyway there will be more of that anon.
Some of the leaflets and items covered  (assuming they make the cut 🙂  )….

2013 in review December 31, 2013

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The Louvre Museum has 8.5 million visitors per year. This blog was viewed about 210,000 times in 2013. If it were an exhibit at the Louvre Museum, it would take about 9 days for that many people to see it.

A rather unusual spoilt vote …. “… Ctulhu shall rise from the sunken city of R’yLeh and Simply devour his opponents” November 15, 2012

A vote for Ctulhu with the text  “Irrelevant, Ctulhu shall rise from the sunken city of R’yLeh and Simply devour his opponents” from the Lisgoold/Leamlara Community Council Election 2012.
I reckon (after a bit of searching) that the voter was a fan of the writer H. P. Lovecraft

From hidden hobby to this years Junior Cert History exam…… June 13, 2012

Filed under: Elections — irishelectionliterature @ 9:18 pm

An eagle eyed reader spotted this… from the 2012 Junior Cert History Higher Level Paper… this website is used as a source.
I’ve been on the TV, on the radio ,in the paper and the site has supplied material for various books and magazines, been archived by the National Library and so on … but to feature on the Junior Cert is a different level altogether!!
(To think that It was only 27 years after starting collecting that I ‘came out’ with my hobby!)
