Two leaflets for Eamon De Valera from the Historic 1917 East Clare by election. Interesting also in that it was one of the very last votes in Ireland with a male only franchise.
Something unusual here that may be of interest. A leaflet from the Belgian Centrist Party CDH entirely done as a comic book. Although Cartoons regularly feature in Irish Election material I’ve only once seen a comic strip which was in A Sinn Fein leaflet.

I thought this might be of interest and indicate some of the possible costs of an election campaign. Its a leaflet from the ‘Labour Campaign Store’ with a price list and order form for all types of election material like jackets, pens, frisbees, badges and so on.

From the 1983 Dublin Central By-Election, caused by the death of George Colley a leaflet from Sinn Fein candidate Christy Burke. Amongst the issues raised in the leaflet are Section 31, Water Rates, TDs Pay and pensions.

This has to be one of the oddest pieces of election ephemera I’ve come across. A nail file from Fianna Fails Dick Roche.
Dick Roche is running for Vice President of the ELDR and is incumbent.

From the 1984 European Elections a leaflet from Fianna Fail Dublin candidates Niall Andrews, Eileen Lemass and Jim Tunney. Lemass and Andrews were elected.

From the 1955 Westminster Elections a single page manifesto from Sinn Fein. Sinn Fein stood 12 candidates of which two, Tom Mitchell and Philip Clarke were elected.

Vote for de Valera, a Felon of our land.The two candidates in the 1917 East Clare bye election depicted as prisoner and prosecutor. de Valera in Volunteer uniform, stands in the dock as prosecutor Lynch points to him while a judge in a top hat writes out a death sentence. Printed on one side only.
From the 1969 General Election, the ITGWU advertise the Labour candidates standing in the election that were members of the union. There were 32 ITGWU members listed , amongst them Conor Cruise O’Brien, David Thornley, Dan Spring and Brendan Corish.

From the 1991 Local Elections a flyer for Fianna Fail candidates Michael Donnelly, Mary Hanafin and Derek Mooney who were running in Rathmines. Michael Donnelly topped the poll with 1,985 votes whilst Mary Hanafin polled 1,083 votes and lost the seat she had won in 1985. Derek Mooney polled 309 votes and also missed out. (Result here)

From the 1996 Dublin West By-election a flyer for the late Brian Lenihan Junior. The by-election took place due to the death of Brian Lenihan Senior. It was the then 36 year old Brian Lenihan Juniors first electoral outing and he won the seat polling 6,995 votes and topping the poll. He held the seat until his passing on the 10th of June 2011.
