Save 16 Moore Street -“honour the men and women of 1916” -Labour Party April 24, 2011


Given its Easter Sunday, I thought this might be apt to post. A leaflet from the Labour Party as part of the Save 16 Moore Street Campaign.
16 Moore Street was where in 1916 Thomas Clarke, Joseph Plunkett, Sean McDermott , Padraic Pearse and William Pearse gathered around the wounded James Connolly and eventually agreed to surrender.

From the 1997 General Election campaign a leaflet on “Monetary Union in the EU (EMU)” produced by The Labour Party. It gives some of the arguements for going into the Euro, what it means to various sectors and what Ireland has to do to get there.

This was a leaflet given out by Labour Youth in I think 2006 against US Military landings in Shannon. Its a clever design in that it gives instructions on how to make a paper airplane out of the leaflet.

Leaflet from Ivana Bacik -Trinity Seanad 2011 April 8, 2011


From the 2011 Seanad Elections a leaflet from Ivana Bacik who is running for a seat on the Trinity Panel. A former President of Trinity Studenst Union, Bacik was first elected to the Seanad in 2007 having stood a number of times previously. She also stood for Labour in Dun Laoghaire in 2011 as well as Dublin Central in 2009 and the 2004 European Elections.
She is well known for her role in various Human Rights Campaigns.

From the 1995 Divorce Referendum an ad from The Galway Advertiser Newspaper from Labour Party TD Michael D Higgins asking for a Yes vote. The Referendum was passed, but only just.

From the 2011 General election a flyer for long standing Labour councillor Des Hurley running in Carlow Kilkenny. The Carlow based Hurley polled 3,908 votes and failed to win a seat. His party colleague, the Kilkenny based Ann Phelan was elected.

Ad for Seamus Ryan (pictured with Ken McGrath) -Labour -Waterford 2011 GE March 11, 2011


From the 2011 General Election campaign an ad for Seamus Ryan running for the Labour Party in Waterford. The Waterford City based councillor is pictured with Waterford hurling star Ken McGrath outside McGraths sports shop in Georges Street in Waterford.
Its unusual enough to see a candidate endorsed in an ad by an Inter County player. Ryan polled 4,638 and missed out on winning a seat.

From the 1992 General Election , The Spring Tide, “An Important Message from Dick Spring to Dublin Families”. The leaflet hit out at Fianna Fail lies.
It also shows how highly regarded by the electorate Dick Spring was at the time. By that it was a message from Dick Spring as opposed to a message from The Labour Party.
Interestingly enough he says that “Labour has NO plans to introduce a new property or house tax”

Eamon Tuffys 2004 Champions League Final Leaflet -Labour -2004 LE Lucan March 2, 2011


From the 2004 Local Elections in the Lucan ward a clever flyer delivered to houses on the evening of the 2004 Champions League Final between Monaco and Porto. The match was won by Porto then managed by José Mourinho.
Eamon Tuffy was elected. He is the father of Labour Dublin Mid West TD Joanna Tuffy.

His nomination caused a split in the local Labour orgaisation. Former Labour candidate Raymond Fitzpatrick is now running for the Socialist Party/ United Left Alliance and Liam Dumpleton is running as an Independent Labour Candidate.
