‘Seventy Seven Arguments Against The Treaty’.. Every Vote for The Free State is a vote for 777 More Executions. August 21, 2013

A striking poster from I would imagine the lead up to the June 1927 General Election regarding executions in the Civil War. The ‘Seventy Seven Arguments Against The Treaty’ refers to the 77 executions during the Civil War (this figure is disputed and may have been 81).
We also have quotes from Patrick Hogan and Kevin O’Higgins
“You did not think we’d Execute Irishmen, We did and we’ll bloody well execute again!”
“I stand by the seventy-seven executions and seven hundred and seventy seven more if necessary”
Some information on Executions during the Civil War

I took a picture of this poster at a recent visit to Kilmainham Gaol which is well worth a visit.

1943 Fianna Fail General Election Pamphlet -“Ireland 1932 to 1942 – A Story of Great Achievements” August 13, 2013

From the 1943 General Election a pamphlet from Fianna Fail “Ireland 1932 to 1942 – A Story of Great Achievements”. The pamphlet, which is 30 pages long, shows the achievements of Fianna Fail since their entry to government in 1932, it emphasizes the gains made towards self sufficiency. There are many info-graphics illustrating the success of the economic war.
From a historical (and of course political) point of view it’s a very interesting read.

Nollaig 1957 edition of the Fianna Fail paper ‘Gleas’ July 31, 2013

The Nollaig 1957 edition of the internal Fianna Fail paper ‘Gleas’. In it we get an obituary of Sean Moylan, a brief report on the partys Ard Fheis. Issues from the Dublin North Central by-election . There’s other news inside and what I really love are the Organisation Notes on the final page. Here we get details of the grassroots of the party from all over the country. There are dances and ceilis galore, a ‘Film Show’ in Sligo and much more. Enjoy.
Apologies for the messiness of some of the scans… the paper was slightly bigger than the scanner.

‘Donnycarney’ Booklet with History of the area issued by the Donnycarney Branch of the Labour Party mid 70’s July 22, 2013

‘Donnycarney’ A lovely booklet with a History of the area, some poetry and local issues issued by the Donnycarney Branch of the Labour Party. I suspect its from the mid 70’s as it mentions Labour being in government (although it could be anytime up until 1985 when Paddy Dunne lost his council seat).
Many thanks to the sender.

“The Donnycarney booklet is pretty interesting of itself, as I lived there for a few years, but the relevance is that it was put together by the local Labour Party. I can only guess when it might have been issued, sometime in the 70s or first half of the 80s, and it’s what I can best describe as fanzine quality – a few A4 sheets folded and held together with a staple.”

A ‘De Valera for President’ paper badge- 1959 Presidential Election June 22, 2013

From the 1959 Presidential Election a small paper De Valera for President badge.
Many thanks to the sender who notes…

You can’t tell from the photo, but it’s actually just a little bigger than the size of a stamp. And, interestingly, there are two tiny holes in it, suggesting it was worn as a type of badge.
