Two wonderful leaflets for Eamon De Valera from the 1917 East Clare by election. One “A Message to the electors of East Clare from the people of Limerick” and the other “Dr O’Dwyer at Limerick 14th Sept., 1916”. De Valera defeated Patrick Lynch to win the seat. (telegram sent by De Valera to his wife with the result)

Leaflet from Dessie Larkin, Maureen McLaughlin-Independent Fianna Fail -Letterkenny -2004 Local Elections August 3, 2012
From the 2004 Local Elections a leaflet from Independent Fianna Fail candidates Dessie Larkin and Maureen McLaughlin running in Letterkenny. Larkin, now a Fianna Fail councillor, topped the poll with 1,736 votes whilst McLaughlin polled 573 votes and missed out on a seat.

From the 1999 European Elections in Dublin, a leaflet with the slogan “The European voice for Dublin” from Fianna Fail candidate Ben Briscoe. This was the longserving Dublin South Central TDs last electoral contest and he failed to win a seat with just over 25,000 votes.

Leaflet for Joe Cummins, Patrick Power, Tony Roche -Fianna Fail -Waterford 1985 Local Elections July 30, 2012
From the 1985 Local Elections a Leaflet for Joe Cummins, Patrick Power and Tony Roche who were running for Fianna Fail in Area 1 of Waterford Corporation. Power and Roche were elected.
Strangely enough I see no record of Joe Cummins running but two other Fianna Fail candidates Larry Dower and Ann O’Rourke are listed in the results I have.

From the November 1982 General Election a Leaflet for Dan Kiely, Denis Foley and Tom McEllistrim who were running for Fianna Fail in Kerry North. Foley and McEllistrim were elected.
Interesting to note Dan Kielys mention of the Pro Life Amendment.

From the 1997 General Election a leaflet from Fianna Fail TD Michael Smith showing the benefits to Thurles of Fianna Fails time in office until 1994. Smith polled 6,999 votes and was elected.

From the 1994 European Elections a leaflet from Fianna Fail Limerick based TD Gerry Collins running in Munster. Collins was elected on this his first attempt at winning a seat in the European Parliament.
Gerry Collins distinguished career is covered and amongst the other items mentioned is his role in releasing hostages including Brian Keenan.

From the 1981 General Election a leaflet for Fianna Fail South Kerry candidates John O’Donoghue, Tim Chub O’Connor and John O’Leary. O’Leary won a seat. (Result here)
It was Chub O’Connors last General Election as he failed to regain the seat he lost in 1977. The 1981 General Election was John O’Donoghues first General Election, it was 1987 before he won a seat.

Leaflet from David McGuinness- Fianna Fail- introducing himself to voters in the new section of Dublin West July 11, 2012
I’m sure that there are plenty more leaflets like this either being delivered or written up at the minute as Politicians come to terms with the new Constituency Boundaries. This is a leaflet from Fianna Fail Mulhuddart Councillor in Dublin West David McGuinness introducing himself to voters in the New Section of Dublin West.

From 1977 leaflet for Denis Foley, Kit Ahern and Tom McEllistrim -Fianna Fail – Kerry North July 5, 2012
From the 1977 General Election a leaflet for Denis Foley, Kit Ahern and Tom McEllistrim running for Fianna Fail in Kerry North. McEllistrim and Ahern were both elected.
The leaflet also gives some details of that famous 1977 Fianna Fail manifesto such as the “Abolition of Rates..” and unusually “For housewives -weekly information on prices on Radio, Television and newspapers”
Kita Ahern despite her long political career only had the one term in the Dail , she was the Aunt of Eoin’Bomber’ Liston and later joined the Progressive Democrats.
Tom McEllistrim succeeded his father (who had held a Dail seat in Kerry since 1923) in 1969 and held the ‘family’ seat until 1987. He regained it in 1989 before losing it again in 1992. His son also Tom McEllistrim served as a TD for Kerry North from 2002 to 2011.
Denis Foley was elected to teh Dail in 1981 and held the seat until 1989 but regained it in 1992 before retiring in 2002.

From the 1997 General Election a flyer from Michael Martin, Batt O’Keefe and John Dennehy running for Fianna Fail in Cork South Central. All three were elected.
On the front is the 1997 election picture of Bertie gazing into the distance.

Leaflet from Erskine Childers – Fianna Fail -1973 Presidential Election June 28, 2012
From the 1973 Presidential Election a leaflet for Fianna Fail candidate Erskine Childers. Childers, a TD from 1938 until 1973, had spells as Tánaiste , Minister for Posts and Telegraphs, Minister for Transport and Power, Minister for Lands and Minister for Health. The leaflet mentions his work and achievements as a Minister. It also mentions , which is possibly a reflection on the power of television in 1973 that he “has spoken on Irish affairs on virtually every Television Service in Europe and America”
It also features a family picture which includes current Labour Party MEP Nessa Childers.
He was elected to the Presidency in this 1973 election, sadly he passed away on the 17th of November 1974 and he was succeeded as President by Cearbhall Ó Dálaigh.

Flyer from Michael Donnelly, Mary Hanafin, Derek Mooney -Fianna Fail -1991 Local Elections-Rathmines June 27, 2012
From the 1991 Local Elections a flyer for Fianna Fail candidates Michael Donnelly, Mary Hanafin and Derek Mooney who were running in Rathmines. Michael Donnelly topped the poll with 1,985 votes whilst Mary Hanafin polled 1,083 votes and lost the seat she had won in 1985. Derek Mooney polled 309 votes and also missed out. (Result here)

Flyer from Brian Lenihan -Fianna Fail -1996 Dublin West By Election June 25, 2012
From the 1996 Dublin West By-election a flyer for the late Brian Lenihan Junior. The by-election took place due to the death of Brian Lenihan Senior. It was the then 36 year old Brian Lenihan Juniors first electoral outing and he won the seat polling 6,995 votes and topping the poll. He held the seat until his passing on the 10th of June 2011.
