Pro Life Campaign Leaflet -1992 Abortion Referendum January 25, 2010

The 1992 abortion referendum had 3 separate ballots.
The first regarded Abortion itself. Which was defeated through a mix of people who felt it went too far and others who felt it didn’t go far enough.
The Second was to do with the Right To Travel. It was passed.
The Third was to do with the Right to Information. It was also passed.
The Referendum arose in essence from issues surrounding the ‘X’ case.

The National Platform – No to Maastricht – ‘Seven Good Reasons for Voting No’ from 1992 September 17, 2009

Given the proximity of Lisbon 2, I figured I’d post stuff from previous European Referendums (or is it Referendi?).

Here is the National Platform asking us to Vote NO to Maastricht. with Seven good reasons to do so.

As you can see it’s roughly the same core arguments used for each European Referendum…

The Convenors of the National Platform are listed as Raymond Crotty and Anthony Coughlan. It was a court case taken by Raymond Crotty that led to us having a Referendum to ratify each European Treaty.

Democratic Left – No to Maastricht … but Yes to Amsterdam (when they were in Government) September 14, 2009

For the Maastricht Treaty the Democratic Left were dead set against it ……..    They were in the Rainbow government for the Amsterdam Treaty and sure it was a great Treaty altogether.

‘Futureline’ -Young FG magazine July 1992

Futureline, the Young Fine Gael magazine in 1992. Young Fine Gael are delighted with themselves at the Yes vote for Maastricht and the fact that they campaigned during the exam season. Also contains a report of a questions and answers session with John Bruton. in Maynooth .

Interesting to note that  the event was chaired by (The now Sunday Independent Jouralist ) John Drennan the chairperson of the Young Fine Gael, Maynooth College branch.

Some lovely images too of the Summer Bar-B-Que on the back page with Brian Hayes amongst others looking as if hes enjoying himself.  Others pictured include Stephen Rea, Colm Brophy,Karen Bailey, Tim Wray and John Mullins,Wonder are many of them still involved?
