From the 2011 General Election campaign a Flyer from Labour Party Laois-Offaly Candidate John Whelan. Whelan is a well known journalist in the area.
His nomination caused a split in the local Labour orgaisation. Former Labour candidate Raymond Fitzpatrick is now running for the Socialist Party/ United Left Alliance and Liam Dumpleton is running as an Independent Labour Candidate.

From the 2007 General Election a leaflet for Labour Party candidate Jim O’Brien. The Laois based O’Brien polled 1278 votes and failed to win a seat.
He is a freelance journalist as well as a writer and has been a writer on Pat Shortts TV show Killinascully as well as The Farmers Journal.

From the 2007 General Election a leaflet for Fine Gael Laois-Offaly candidate Olwyn Enright. Enright the daughter of former Fine Gael TD Tom Enright was elected to the Dail in 2002.
In 2005 she married then Fine Gael Senator , now TD for Donegal North East Joe McHugh.
In August 2010 she announced that she would not be standing at the next General Election.

Was searching around and found these. Brian Cowen in 1980 and 1981.
In 1980 he was on the Clara Under 21 County Championship winners and in 1981 he was on the Clara Senior team.
Funny thing the Johnny Bracken beside him on the Under 21 team could hardly be THIS OTHER ELECTORAL LEGEND FROM CLARA could it? 🙂

I’d hazard that many people now would be sorry to have missed him too.
On the reverse are listed key achievements. Amongst these are the number of houses being built. In the year prior to 2007 the incredible total of 93,149 houses were built.
Unemployment is now at higher than 1997 levels.

From the 1989 European Elections Campaign (the European Elections were held on the same day as a Genneral Election) outgoing Fianna Fail MEP Paddy Lalor. Paddy Lalor topped the poll.
A TD for over 20 years and a Minister 3 times, Paddy Lalor was also member of the last Laois team to win the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship in 1949. He Served from 1979 to 1994 in the European Parliament.
Tom Parlon- Progressive Democrats -2007 GE Laois-Offaly January 17, 2010
From the 2007 General Election, former IFA president Tom Parlon. Parlon then a junior Minister was big on decentralisation.
Having won a seat in 2002, he lost it in this 2007 election. (Parlon on ElectionsIreland.org) . He then became DG of the Connstruction Industry Federation.

he also stood in the 2009 Dublin South by-election (172 votes).
Noel O’Gara is not a fan of planning permission.

John Bracken from 2007, where he got a lot of media coverage due to his posters, literature and a campaign song but mainly because of his looks.
His policies were sensible enough but he didn’t get a huge vote. He failed again to win a seat in the 2009 local elections.
