“The First Dail …Labour’s Historic Role”, a leaflet from The Labour Party outlining Labours role in the first Dail. It includes The “Democratic Programme of The First Dail Eireann” written by Labour Party leader Tom Johnson. There are also details of the Socialist International in Berne 1919.

From the 1954 General Election in Sligo/Leitrim a flyer for Joseph Pilkington an Independent Republican Labour Candidate, Workers Unemployed, Small Farmer and Old IRA candidate. He polled 2,710 votes and failed to win a seat.
As far as I know Pilkington was a Sligo Town based Councillor. He was elected to Sligo County Council and Sligo Corporation in 1950 as a Labour candidate and died in 1955. I don’t know why he didn’t stand for Labour here in 1954.

From a 1997 freesheet from then Labour Party Dublin MEP Bernie Malone a competition to ‘Win a trip to the European Parliament for two’.
From the 1987 General Election, ‘Ryan Stands on His Record’, a leaflet from Labour Party TD for Tipperary North John Ryan outlining what had been delivered by the coalition government both Locally and Nationally over the previous five years.
Ryan polled 4,558 votes and missed out on a seat as newcomer Michael Lowry claimed a seat for Fine Gael and Michael O’Kennedy and Michael Smith won seats for Fianna Fail.

From the 1985 Local Elections a leaflet for Labour Party candidates Charlie Keddy and Tom Mulligan who we running in Greystones for seats on Wicklow County Council.
Keddy polled 448 votes and Mulligan 214 votes and neither won a seat.
Keddy has since contested many elections (his record) and this first outing was the most votes he ever received.
“Anglo Irish R.I.P. -An Important Step Forward” a leaflet from Labour TD for Dublin South, Alex White detailing the benefits of the Governments recent deal on the Debts and shutting down Anglo.
From the 1989 General Election a leaflet for then Workers Party councillor Pat Rabbitte. The leaflet attacks the local TDs Sean Walsh and Chris Flood as well as Progressive Democrat TD Mary Harney. It also contains an appeal for Labour voters to transfer to The Workers’ Party and for Workers’ Party voters to transfer to Labour.
There is also a piece from WP Councillor Don Tipping.
In this 1989 General Election Rabbitte polled 7,166 votes and took a Dail seat for the first time, a seat he has held onto ever since.
There are also quotes from various magazines and newspapers on how good Rabbitte is!

From December 1998 “In Touch” issue 2 a Labour members Newsletter published after the agreement of “The historic merger of Labour and Democratic Left”.
Members and branches are urged to contact Democratic Left in their areas to help start the merger process which was to officially happen on February 1st 1999.
It also provides a list of Democratic Left elected representatives.
There is also a section on Labour local election candidates for the 1999 Local Elections, details of the Party Leaders (Then Ruairi Quinn) Constituency tour and other items also.
