From the 2007 General Election campaign in Kildare North, a novel flyer from Then sitting TD Catherine Murphy.

From the 2007 General Election in Kildare North, a leaflet for the late Michael Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick, a close ally of Charlie McCreevy was elected.
Many thanks to the donor who writes…..
Sean Downey ran for Sinn Féin in the 2009 local elections for Newbridge Town Council and Kildare County Council. He was the first SF candidate in over 20 years in the town and recieved 662 votes in the county and 245 in the town, Sean was not elected.
Also included are the Sinn Fein European Election candidates Kathleen Funchion and Tomas Sharkey.
I received this today (many thanks) the donor notes…
“…here’s a plea to the voters of newbridge in the 2009 locals from Culture Factory who have been campaign for a dedicated creative and social centre in Newbridge, the leaflet succeeded in making youth facilities the major issue in the election and was delivered to over 8,000 homes by activists and members of the group.”
From the 1991 Local Elections in Kildare, Green Party candidate Catherine Power. She wasn’t elected.
A Green Councillor isn’t in to horse-trading she writes.

From the 1999 Local elections in the Leixlip Ward Fine Gael candidate Senan Griffin. Senan Griffin was elected.
There is a message from Bernard Durkan as well as one from Senan Griffin himself. His achievements include ‘Quality Footpaths’ and Grants to GAA clubs.
You will also see mention of opposition to the proposed incinerator in Kilcock. The Incinerator
proposal was turned down by An Bórd Pleanála’s who refused planning permission for the proposed plant.

Originally elected to Kildare County Council as an Independent, the Late Kate Walsh joined the Progresive Democrats in 2000.
In 2002 , the highly respected candidate polled 3,919 in Kildare North but failed to win a seat. Kate Walsh was appointed to the Seanad by the Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern in 2002.
Kate Walsh passed away on the 24th April 2007
A leaflet advertising a Democratic Left Public forum in Maynooth addressed by Eamon Gilmore. The topic ‘Are Students Getting Value for Money?’. I suspect that it was 1992 although I’m not certain.
The usual issues of Grants and facilities are mentioned.

The ‘Newsletter’ of Fianna Fail candidate Tim Cotter in the 1991 Local elections for Kildare County Council, Celbridge LEA. Cotter failed to win a seat.
Plenty in teh Newsletter though. A nice message from Charles J Haughey at the back.
Cotter is pictured canvassing happy looking workers at the INTEL plant. He also has shots with such luminaries as the then Lord Mayor of Dublin Michael Donnelly, Michael O’Kennedy, Bertie Ahern, Mary O’Rourke, Seamus Brennan and Ray Burke. Its a whos who of Fianna Fail at the time.
The boot is put into Labour too over Service Charges.
Sean ‘Buggy’ Horan was one of the characters around Maynooth in the late 80s and known to many who frequented ‘The Roost’.
This is Buggy Horans 1991 leaflet where he contested in the Celbridge Local Electoral area. (The result on electionsireland.org)
He sadly passed away in early 2012
Green Party candidate JJ Power from the 2005 Kildare North By-election. JJ is son of former Fianna Fail TD Patrick Power and Brother of current Fianna Fail TD Sean Power. In the 2007 General Election both JJ Power and Brother Sean Power stood in Kildare South. Sean Power was elected.

Former teacher ,Aine Brady, who not alone is the sister of two Fianna Fail TDs Michael Kitt and Tom Kitt, but is also married to former Fianna Fail TD Gerry Brady.
This is from the 2005 Kildare North By-election where Aine failed to win the seat. She did however win a seat in 2007.

Labour councillor Paddy McNamara from the 2005 Kildare North by-election where he got almost 18% of the vote. The by-election was won by Catherine Murphy.

Gerry Browne the ‘Independent Labour’ candidate in the 2005 by-election in Kildare North caused by Charlie McCreeveys move to Brussells. Browne received 226 votes in a contest won by Catherine Murphy.

Former Workers Party, democratic Left and Labour Councillor Catherine Murphy (who has been very kind in sending her election literature over the years) from her successful by election campaign in 2005. This is just her flyer, I’ll put up more detailed stuff in due course. However it does show the pressures on North Kildare at the time such as school places and recreation facilities, indicating that a lot of the estates built were done so without adequate facilities.

John Dardis, a former Agricultural journalist served four terms in the Seanad and failed 3 times to win a seat in the Dail.
In this 1994 European Election he polled 12,591 votes and was never in the running for a seat.
The 9th of June 1994 was also the PDs first electoral outing under new Party Leader Mary Harney.
Emmet Stagg attacks the cuts in the Health Services in 1989.
“If you can pay,
your child gets heart surgery in a week.
If you can’t pay,
join the waiting list or die. “

There were high hopes that both Michael Enright and Catherine Murphy could put down a marker for future Dail progress. A General election was held on the same day and it was hoped that their candidacy in the Euro Elections would give them a boost.
Although the Workers Party vote increased from 1984s Euro Election, both candidates lost their deposits with a combined 4.38% of the vote.
In the General election Enrights vote actually fell, whilst Murphys 1,520 vote was decent enough in the circumstances (An ‘Army Wives’ candidate, Carol Tiernan also stood in Kildare polling 2,690 votes, some of which would have gone to Murphy).
The thorny issue of party policy towards Farmers must have also had an impact on the vote. “Reorganisation of Agricultural production…”
wasn’t the policy to have rural voters flocking to the party. Also we had another new party ‘Logo’.
