From the 1983 Westminster Elections a leaflet from Sinn Fein, “Sinn Fein -The Voice of Principled Leadership” . It was the first Westminster Elections since 1959 fought by the party. In the election Gerry Adams won a seat for the party in West Belfast.

From the 1933 General Election campaign “This is What Cosgrave Will Do…” which details what Cumann na nGaedheal would do should they be elected to government.This 1933 General Election was the last election fought by Cumann na nGaedheal, as later that year they merged with the National Centre Party and the National Guard (Blueshirts) to form Fine Gael.
From the 1983 Dublin Central By-Election, caused by the death of George Colley a leaflet from Sinn Fein candidate Christy Burke. Amongst the issues raised in the leaflet are Section 31, Water Rates, TDs Pay and pensions.
From the 1959 Referendum on the Voting System, where Fianna Fail proposed first past the post , one seat constituencies, “Fine Gael Says Hold Fast To P.R.”. Fine Gael outlines why we should hold on to our system of P.R.
The Referendum was defeated with 51.79% voting No and 48.21% voting Yes.
Nice piece this from the 1943 General Election, “Put An End To Poverty” ..”Vote Labour”. Interestingly it provides Guarantees for Farmers, Workers, Cottage Tenants, Town Tenants and to The Nation.
The Guarantee to The Nation includes “a saving of 7,000,000 a year in bank interests, payments to financiers ….”
From the 1948 General Election two ads for Fine Gael Dun Laoghaire and Rathdown candidates Liam Cosgrave and Henry M. Dockrell. Liam Cosgrave polled 7,521 votes whilst Henry Dockrell polled 5,133 votes and lost his seat.
Both candidates came from significant political dynasties. Liam Cosgrave being son of WT Cosgrave and father of former TD Liam Cosgrave jnr.
The Dockrell dynasty provided various TDs and Councillors until 2004.
A 1981 RUC ‘Wanted’ poster for the Crumlin Road Prison Escapees. The seven listed on the poster were brothers Tony and Gerry Sloan, Michael McKee, Joe Doherty, Angelo Fusco, Patrick Magee and RJ Campbell.

A lovely leaflet ‘Frank Conroy and The Spanish Civil War’ produced by the Frank Conroy Committee. Conroy is mentioned in the Christy Moore song ‘Vive la quinta Brigada’.

From 1972 a Christmas Card issued by the Ardoyne Relief Committee with proceeds in aid of internees and their dependents. The cards were published by the monks at Portglenone Abbey.

From the 1945 Presidential Election an ad for Independent candidate Patrick McCartan “McCartan for President”. He polled 212,834 votes (19.59%) in a contest won by Sean T O’Kelly.
McCartan a former TD and later founder member of of Clann na Poblachta , he also had a spell in the Seanad.

From the 1957 General Election an ad for Sinn Fein candidate Padraig O’Dubtaig who polled 3,308 votes and missed out on a seat.

From 1992 , in the aftermath of the X-Case a leaflet on Abortion from The Socialist Workers Movement intended for Secondary school students. The leaflet was never distributed.

A fairly brutal pro life leaflet from the 1992 Abortion Referenda. Under the guise of’ Abortion -The Bishops Statement’ headline we get lines such as “The Supreme Court Judges who approved abortion in the X-case committed the mortal sin of murder… ” , “we must not have innocent blood on our hands like Albert Reynolds”
The leaflet goes on to ask for people to vote for everyone except Fianna Fail, even though some of the parties would have been pro choice.
